Jodie Davis never expected a LinkedIn message about recruitment to lead to love. Especially not with a man 21 years older than her. Three years later, the couple, from Kent, are preparing to welcome a baby girl and say their age gap has never been an issue.

Adam, 46, works in the balcony industry, while Jodie, 25, was in recruitment and looking for potential clients on LinkedIn in 2023.

“When I sent Adam a connection request, I was looking for a recruitment client, definitely not a boyfriend,” says Jodie. The pair worked together professionally for around six months before eventually meeting face-to-face at a business meeting.

“The moment I walked into the room, there was just this instant chemistry,” says Jodie. “My boss noticed it and told me Adam was going to ask me out. I was adamant that he wouldn’t!”

He did, although Jodie initially thought their first date would simply make a funny story to tell her friends.

“I went into it thinking it would probably be a one-off because of the age difference,” she says. “But we had such a good time together. We agreed not to overthink anything and just enjoy spending time together, and we’ve basically been inseparable ever since.”

As their relationship became serious, starting a family together became part of their plans.

“We always knew we wanted a baby together,” says Jodie. “The age gap genuinely wasn’t something that made either of us question it.”

Adam already has two daughters, aged 8 and 10, who are an important part of the couple’s life. Although this will be Jodie’s first child, she says the fact that Adam has experienced fatherhood before does not take anything away from it.

“People ask whether I wish this was Adam’s first baby too, but I don’t,” she said. “This is our first baby together and our first time experiencing all of this together. We’re a team, and that’s what makes it special.”

Adam is also unconcerned about becoming a father again at 46.

“I probably worried more when I became a dad for the first time,” he says. “You have more perspective and experience as you get older. I’m really excited to experience it all again with Jodie.”

Jodie jokes: “Adam isn’t an old, old man. He’s just an old man! He’s incredibly young at heart, and I’ve seen what a relaxed, loving dad he is. Having that experience going into this is actually really reassuring.”

The couple were delighted to discover they were expecting a girl.

“We would obviously have been over the moon either way, but we both secretly hoped for a daughter,” says Jodie.

Adam adds: “I was absolutely buzzing. I’m a girl dad.”

Their families were equally excited by the pregnancy announcement, with Jodie sharing some of their reactions with her TikTok followers. Now well into her pregnancy, Jodie has been documenting the highs, surprises, and preparations for motherhood online.

Her pregnancy requires additional monitoring after she was found to have low PAPP-A, a reduced level of a protein measured during pregnancy.

As this can sometimes be linked to problems with the placenta and the baby’s growth, Jodie will receive extra growth scans as a precaution.

So far she says the pregnancy is progressing well, and the couple are excitedly preparing for their daughter’s arrival.

Jodie regularly shares their relationship, pregnancy, and family life on TikTok under @‌jodiedavis13. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, although their age difference inevitably attracts occasional comments.

“We get the usual grandad jokes and comments about the age gap,” says Jodie. “But people see a tiny snapshot of your life online. They don’t see the actual relationship or family behind it. We’re very happy together, our families are happy for us, and we’re incredibly excited about having our daughter.”

The couple also laugh at some of the assumptions made about how they got together.

“There was never some dramatic secret workplace romance,” says Jodie. “We met through work when we were both single, went on a date, fell in love, and built a life together. It’s actually much less scandalous than some people on TikTok would like it to be.”
