‘No extra ice’ with £16 automobile purchase that is ‘an absolute should’ for winter motorists

“Does the job perfectly, I’ve not had to scrape ice off my car all winter.”

As parts of the UK experienced foggy weather conditions over the weekend, it’s clear that winter is on its way. It won’t be long until the temperature drops and we wake up to cars covered in ice and snow, but we’ve found a discounted product that could prove an effective timesaver for motorists.

At Yimbly – the online marketplace owned by this site’s parent company, Reach PLC – the Hillington Car Windshield Cover is reduced from £24.99 to £17.99, but can be reduced to £16.20 with the code AUTUMN10. This aluminium foil cover is said to deliver ‘all-weather protection’ and is designed to prevent frost, ice and snow building up on a car windscreen.

It allows drivers to get on the road safely without having to scrape ice off the glass and wipers during the cold autumn and winter months. It’s crafted from four layers of material that work together to isolate heat, insulate from both cold and hot temperatures and protect the glass.

For when the hot weather returns, it can also shield from the sun and UV rays to keep the car interior cool. The car windshield cover can be quickly secured in place by being trapped in the car door and wrapped around wing mirrors with elastic loops.

As well as the cover itself, customers will also receive a pair of smaller covers designed to protect wing mirrors. For when it’s not in use, the Hillington cover folds away into the included bag for easy storage in the car boot.

The Hillington Car Windshield Cover measures 147x120cm and is said to fit the windscreen ‘of all cars’. However, those with larger vehicles can find the Halfords All Seasons Car Cover in large or extra large for £66.99 and £71.99 respectively.

Elsewhere, shoppers happy to pay more could opt for the Delk Frostguard Deluxe Front Windscreen Cover for £30 (was £34.92) at QVC. This also includes a pair of wing mirror covers and a choice of colours including plaid, crimson and leopard.

The Hillington Car Windshield Cover has only received two reviews at Yimbly, both of which are perfect five stars. Customers have described it as ‘good quality’ and ‘fit for purpose’.

At Amazon – where it’s available for £17.99 – it’s received almost 800 reviews and a 4.5-star rating and is said to do the job ‘perfectly’.

“No ice for me,” one reviewer said. “Does the job perfectly, quick and easy to put on and works a treat. I’ve not had to scrape any ice off my car all winter.”

Another said: “I got this to help protect my car windscreen from frost and it did exactly that. I had a clear windscreen without having to use an ice scraper.”

Despite hailing the Hillington Car Windshield Cover as an ‘absolute must’, one shopper noted a flaw with the wing mirror covers, saying: “It comes with two sleeves for the mirrors which cannot be secured; they just have an elastic at the bottom which cannot be tightened. I wouldn’t say they’re loose, but they’re not tight; with wind strong enough, they can be blown away.”

That said, this five-star review remarked: “It’s a perfect fit. It will do a perfect job in winter or summer. It even covers my windscreen wipers.”
