The American President presented the newly treated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, which has had to have money spent on it after it was “treated with hate”.
Donald Trump set tongues wagging for all the wrong reasons again as he unfurled another reworked monument. The 80-year-old presented the newly treated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington.
The bumbling world leader appeared to struggle with his words, calling the famous landmark a “massive piece of….. pool” when presenting the water memorial, which had recently looked slightly murky.
Addressing the crowds and press in front of the American landmark, he stumbled over his speech, saying: “This project should be a project that unites all Americans. It should be something we’re very proud of. This is a massive piece of…… pool. There’s never been anything like it.
“It is the biggest anywhere in the world by far and was treated with a lot of love, then it was treated with lot of hate, and we had to stop the hate because they came in and should never have done what they did.”
He was speaking about the previous administration which he claims allowed the water to turn green, smelly and covered in “algae”, leaving a “bad aroma”.
He spoke of the “vandalism” and the “filth” that had sullied the basin near the Lincoln Memorial and showed before and after posters of the work that he had approved to be carried out.
The water is now a “soft, dark blue” with “great reflectivity”, he said, with “brand new pipes” and the “granite was all resurfaced.”
He added: “It’s a work of art in many ways” and also went on to spoke about the other renovation works going on in the area, including replacing the grass at the White House and other Washington parks.
“Like the human being, grass has a life also. You have to replace grass,” the president said.
But the bizarre wording, tired expressions and stumbling over nonsensical sentences has left many concerned over his state of mind.
One took to X and said: “Is he having a stroke? What on Earth is going on?” while another added: “No one in the history of the world has ever used the wording ‘piece of pool’.”
Another critic added: “Trump has turned a national landmark into a green, peeling pond, then blamed the mess on vandals. You couldn’t invent a more fitting metaphor for this presidency if you tried.”
Someone else unimpressed with his speech said: “It is not quite Martin Luther King levels of speech is it?” while another simply added: “He surely isn’t well, is he?”
Trump concluded: “We’re treating our capital city with the love and the honour that it deserves,” Trump proclaimed
The 80-year-old president said the upcoming election in the US is “the most important midterm I believe in our lifetime” and railed at the Democratic Party’s “most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history”.
