Russell Brand appeared to predict his own downfall two years ago with an eerie premonition. The disgraced comedian – convicted of rape on Thursday – once wrote on Twitter: “The world is never going to be the same after November 5th.”

The post, which was made in October 2024, was a reference to the looming US Presidential elections. Brand – who had pivoted towards alt-right talking points and conspiracy theories – had endorsed Donald Trump ahead of the poll.

But it has resurfaced online after social media wags highlight it coincided with the date he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault two years later and told he is facing a lengthy jail sentence. One wrote: “You don’t say.” Another said: “Prophetic.”

A third mocked Brand’s linguistic techniques and said: “You were righty wighty with that one.” A fourth quoted the post and simply said: “Yours, particularly.” Someone else said: “Aged like fine wine.”

One social media user wrote: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey, he was right on the money.” One other said: “The man could see the future.” And someone else wrote: “He was two years off, but he called it.”

Brand – who had once dabbled in left-wing politics – pivoted as his stardom waned and reinvented himself as a wellness guru but spent much of his recent years sharing a platform with far-right figures like Tommy Robinson.

He publicly endorsed Trump in 2024 ahead of the US Presidential election, encouraged Americans to vote for the real estate mogul on his podcast ‘Stay Free with Russell Brand’.

And Brand praised Trump as a “free speech hero” when he was given the “Global Defender of Freedom” award at Mar-a-Lago in February 2025 as he moved deeper into the Maga movement.

Brand was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault on Thursday after a trial at Southwark Crown Court. He was told to expect “significant jail time” when he is sentenced next week.

Speaking after the verdicts were returned, Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said: “As his profile grew, so too did his sense of entitlement.

“I hope this conviction sends a clear message that no one is above the law, no matter how famous or powerful they may be.

“Today’s verdict is first and foremost a testament to the extraordinary courage, resilience and determination of the women who came forward and reported what happened to them. Without their bravery, this outcome would not have been possible.”
