Two people have been arrested by police in connection with alleged child neglect at a Welsh nursery. Gwent Police confirmed an investigation has been launched following a tip-off from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Officers said a 49 year old man and a 29 year old woman have both been detained on suspicion of child neglect. The man hails from Cardiff, while the woman is from the Caerphilly area, police said.

Although the nursery has not been named, police have confirmed it is on Bridge Street in Blackwood. Detective Inspector Gavin Wilkes announced the arrests, with a statement: “We understand that allegations of this nature are upsetting and working with partner agencies, we are conducting a thorough investigation.

“We are aware of social media posts circulating and while we understand the public interest in this case, we urge people not to speculate or post anything online that could impact the investigation. If you have any information that you think might help our investigation, please come forward to report to us directly.”

As police continue their enquiries at the nursery, locals have been warned to expect a heightened police presence in the surrounding area.
