There’s one thing no kitchen or family is complete without – and while other offerings are dreadfully dull, this bin option has it all
If there’s one thing I’ve noticed as I grow older it’s that some things I once considered dull now hold a special type of excitement. The ‘thing’ in question this week is my new bin.
Bins. Everyone needs a good one. While this statement might sound unsurprising, one thing that did shock me is the variety of styles available on the market. Pedal, swing, touch-top, double, open. The list goes on. See I had never really put much thought into where my rubbish goes. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been an avid recycler and certainly know which day the bin-men come around, but as for the in-home disposal, I was clueless.
That is until I got my hands on Eko’s Ecocasa Plus Recycling Pedal Bin 40+40L. At the risk of perhaps sounding overzealous about your everyday household item, it’s a game changer.
You can never be too enthusiastic about something that makes putting the bins out easier than ever. It’s been voted one of the UK’s least favourite chores, but EKO’s offering makes it far more bearable.
Impressive storage capacity, sleek design and a nice colour – it’s got it all. My favourite personal feature is the dual capacity – meaning there’s one side for your normal household waste and another for recycling.
Now, £149.99 might seem steep for something you literally put your rubbish in, but I would add that the quality of the product is pretty obvious from the get go.
The first thing that grabs your attention is how smart it looks. The stainless steel design and fingerprint resistant finish helps to keep it free of any grubby hand marks, while it’s incredibly easy to clean, should you spill anything down it.
I am certainly no stranger to the tacky black plastic models that crack with just the slightest bit of pressure. With this offering, you can live free of worries.
The lid hides the bin liner from view, which also helps to keep it looking neat and tidy. As well as that, its shape enables it to fit easily against the wall and blend seamlessly into the kitchen. It really is the best looking bin I’ve seen, like an appliance, rather than an eyesore.
Now, we know we’re on to a winner with the appearance, but what about the functionality?
Two inner buckets mean the EKO-designed bin liners (which are strong enough to have never ripped on me) can be easily removed without interference. And trust me, 40L is plenty to accommodate even the largest of families for the week.
The pedal at the bottom also means the bin can be accessed without needing to touch any lids, perfect for a busy cooking session.
Finally, while the bin is deep it fits closely to the wall, meaning the design doesn’t take up too much space while still optimising the space within. A big win.
All in all, I’m very impressed. I now can’t imagine my home without it – and there’s no going back.
