Fans think Angel Di Maria has Puskas Award wrapped up with stunning Juventus goal

European football fans think Angel Di Maria has already added the Puskas Award to his World Cup winner’s medal.

The Juventus winger brought his fine 2022-23 form into Nantes, bagging himself a Europa League brace within the first 20 minutes of the contest. Having already scored in the World Cup final for Argentina, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United legend has helped himself to six goals and six assists in 20 appearances for Juventus this season.

But while he has been a rare positive in a painful campaign for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, Di Maria produced another magical moment for the Old Lady. It’s safe to say, the football world cannot get enough of the timeless 35-year-old.

There appeared to be little danger when Nicolo Fagiolo won the ball back and rolled the ball into Di Maria’s path. However, as two Nantes defenders stepped in to close him down, the winger sent a first time, curling effort that started way outside off the post and curved into the far corner.

It had swerve, it had loop, it had pace, and, in the end, it had Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont on his knees. Considering the truly outrageous nature of the goal, many fans would have said the goal was a poorly executed cross, had it been most other players in world football.

However, most of the football world are well acquainted with the majestic talent of the left-footed magician. “Most unappreciated player of the 21st century. Serious footballer,” one fan commented. “Seriously, this is a work of art,” another added.

“Di Maria just won the Puskas Award,” one certain fan wrote on social media. “Easily one of my favourite players from his era, always been unbelievable,” serenaded another supporter.

Meanwhile, Juventus supporters were also particularly impressed with the goal with one particular supporter tweeting, “We have to renew him even for another year, so good to have as part of the squad.”

Twelve minutes after his stunner, a goal-bound effort from the Argentinian was handled on the line by Nantes defender Nicolas Pallois, who was immediately sent off for his efforts. Fortunately for Di Maria, he was able to emphatically dispatch his penalty, doubling Juventus’ lead and his goal tally for the evening.
