Wout Weghorst shows exactly how much Man Utd goal means with touching moment

Manchester United star Wout Weghorst looked the most relieved person in the world at full-time of their 4-1 win over Real Betis.

The Dutch striker scored for the first time at Old Trafford to give United a three-goal lead at the halfway stage of their Europa League round-of-16 tie. He pulled off a knee slide before letting out a huge sigh of relief as he celebrated the late strike.

And it looked like the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders come the end of the match. Daily Express reporter Alex Turk witnessed him falling to his knees after the full-time whistle.

BT Sport pundit and Red Devils legend Paul Scholes joked Weghorst looked “slightly pleased” to have got off the mark at the Theatre of Dreams.

He said: “I think he was slightly pleased with his goal, I think he’s been waiting for that. I think everyone at the club is pleased for him. The players around him.”

That was certainly the case with first goalscorer Marcus Rashford telling the broadcaster: “He is a forward, he gets joy from scoring goals.

“As good as he works hard and does all the other stuff, he wants to score goals, so yes, everyone is really pleased for him.”

Weghorst, who was brought in on loan from Burnley in the January transfer window by Erik ten Hag, has only one other United goal to his name which came in a 3-0 Carabao Cup away win at Nottingham Forest back in January.

He came in for criticism earlier this week after being caught touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign before their 7-0 humiliation against Liverpool, which will have made the goal extra sweet.
