UFC star who put Ronda Rousey in hospital with brutal head kick is back at 41-years-old

Holly Holm, the fighter who put Ronda Rousey in hospital with a brutal head kick back in 2015, has agreed to a new six-fight contract with the UFC.

The 41-year-old, who is 14-6 in her career, is set to face off this weekend against Yana Santos at UFC Fight Night in San Antonio. And her new deal means the fight against Santos will by no-means be her last.

Back in 2015, Holm made headlines when she shocked the world by defeating Ronda Rousey in stunning fashion. At that time, Rousey was riding the crest of a wave and was enjoying a spell as one of the world’s most recognisable athletes for her ferocious fighting.

However, Holm, who bookmakers made a heavy underdog before the bout, shocked everyone by knocking Rousey out with a high kick in the second round, which saw the now 41-year-old end her opponents then three-year reign as the women’s bantamweight champion.

Prior to that fight, Rousey had been undefeated too, making Holm’s win even more impressive.

Since her fight against Rousey, Holm has had four title bouts, losing all four. Her last fight came back in 2022 when she faced Ketlen Vieira, where she lost out by a split decision.

But despite her loss last year, and her other title defeats, Holm’s promoter Lenny Fresquez has revealed the Albuquerque born fighter is more eager than ever to get back in the Octogon to compete.

“They [the UFC] love Holly,” Fresquez told the Albuquerque Journal. “They know she’s one of the faces of the UFC and they wanted her to stay.”

“Her mission is to get that gold [regain the bantamweight title]. She’s one or two fights away from it.”
