Vladimir Putin took Super Bowl ring after ‘kill’ remark to billionaire NFL boss
Kraft met Putin in 2005, following the Patriots’ victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl XXXIX. Despite now having six championship rings, Kraft wasn’t too happy about dropping one among his first three because of a mix-up throughout his assembly with Putin.
Kraft later admitted he was okay with Putin having his ring, though it held each sentimental and financial worth. In the collection 50 Rings, 50 Days, Kraft recalled in 2013: “I took out the ring and confirmed it to [Putin].
“He put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill somebody with this ring’.” He added: “I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys obtained round him and walked out.”
Despite wanting his ring back, Kraft, who is worth £8.7billion, says he was told by White House staff not to risk starting World War III over a piece of bling. He continued: “It would actually be in the most effective curiosity of US-Soviet relations in the event you meant to offer the ring as a gift.”
