Met Office climate maps present 24C warmth blast may hit in subsequent 24 hours

Advanced weather modelling maps from the Met Office show temperatures could hit 24C in some parts of the UK on Thursday (May 2).

Sadly however, the national weather agency doesn’t expect the day to be balmy for everyone.

The UKV weather model, which is run by the Met Office, shows temperatures could exceed 20C in several parts of the country on Thursday afternoon. The warmth seems to be concentrated across a stretch of the UK, from the south-east, across the Midlands and to the north-west, Northern Ireland and the west coast of Scotland.

Maximum possible temperatures at 3pm on Thursday (May 2)

Maximum temperature maps show the mercury could hit 24C in East Anglia at 3pm. Oxfordshire could see 23C, with 20C in the north-west of England and the west coast of Scotland. Northern Ireland might hit 19C, with London and the Midlands hovering around 17C to 18C.

Places away from this south-east to north-west plume of heat will be considerably cooler, the maps suggest. And some of these places could see thunderstorms.

The Met Office forecast for Thursday states: “Early thundery rain across southern England and south Wales easing. Some bright spells developing, although further thundery showers may develop later. Some warm sunshine elsewhere, but chilly North Sea coasts.”

There are also yellow Met Office weather warnings currently in place for thunderstorms across southern England and south Wales. These will expire early on Thursday morning.

Britain has sizzled this week

BBC Weather’s forecast for Thursday states conditions should be “warm” for most of the country. It reads: “The south and south-west will see spells of heavy, thundery rain followed by the risk of afternoon thunderstorms tomorrow. Largely dry elsewhere with low cloud slowly clearing eastwards. Warm for many.”
