Amad throws down gauntlet to Rashford with message to Ten Hag

Amad Diallo insists he’s ready to step up and become the next big star at Manchester United.

Diallo took one of his rare chances to shine with a stunning strike in United’s thrilling 3-2 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. The goal came just two months after Diallo notched his famous winner to help United beat bitter rivals Liverpool 4-3 and knock them out of the FA Cup.

Diallo admits he’s had to be patient since returning to United from spending last season on loan at Sunderland. The 21-year-old winger had to wait until December to make his first appearance for United in over two years as a substitute in the defeat at Nottingham Forest, having got injured in pre-season training.

Diallo said: “As a player you need to be patient. It’s not easy every time, you train hard but you don’t get what you want. I was training every day hard waiting for my chance, and now I get my chance and score and I’m very happy for that.

“I go step by step. I know this year was not easy fo me because I didn’t play a lot. The most important thing was to go step by step, but when you get your chance you fight for the team and help the team.”

Diallo has formed strong relationships with Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho both on and off the pitch. The trio should go on to form the bedrock of a United team under the new part-ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

And Diallo admits he is relishing developing his game alongside his fellow young-guns at Old Trafford. Diallo added: “In training we try to play together, to make that combination on the training pitch.

“When we play together like we did against Newcastle, we try and to make the same things like in the training. We are young players, we are motivated to shine here – and I hope to continue like this.

“It’s important to have Kobbie Mainoo in the team. He’s a good player and I have a good relationship with him outside of the pitch, with him and Garnacho. We are happy to play together.”
