Man tries to ‘journey by portal from Dublin to New York’ in viral video

A comedian attempted to take a trip to a different country utilising the ‘portal’ between Dublin and New York.

In a post to X (formerly Twitter), comedian Ryan Carrick, said he “only travels by portal” before readying himself to dash through the art installation and straight to the Big Apple with luggage and passport in hand. Earlier this month, each city received half of the installation which features a large screen and camera, allowing people to see from the Irish capital straight into the East Coast metropolis.

The portal has now been shut following a number of inappropriate incidents. One saw a woman from the New York side flash to the camera, lifting up her top for all to see, reports the Mirror.

Before the portal closed, Ryan had branded the portal “dead handy,” praising its “no queuing, just straight through” policy. He said: “I have the passport and the liquids. Now I know other lads had issues with creatures from other dimensions. My mate Graham is still actually floating through the ether.”

Partway through the clip, Carrick can be seen wandering around the portal as if trying to evaluate his entry point. The video ends with him turning back towards the camera, stating awkwardly, “It’s not a real portal.”

The clip tickled viewers, with one writing: “I’m f***ing dying.” Another agreed: “Gave me a much needed chuckle.”

Dublin City Council confirmed the portal had been temporarily removed. They stated: “We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days with our partners in New York to ensure that Portals continue to deliver a positive experience for both cities and the world.”

A spokesperson acknowledged that while the “overwhelming majority of interactions are positive,” some experiences had reflected

New York-based content creator Ava Louise has confessed she was the one to flash the camera. She previously told Daily Star that her actions were a response to Irish portal users’ 9/11 jokes. “Well, Dublin showed NYC the twin towers, so it was only fair I showed them my twin towers to save our city from harassment,” she said.
