Daniel Dubois has huge message for Anthony Joshua forward of Filip Hrgovic showdown
Daniel Dubois is hoping to get past Filip Hrgovic so he can show the world what really happened in sparring sessions with Anthony Joshua.
The British heavyweight takes on the highly-fancied Croatian as part of his promoter Frank Warren’s 5v5 battle with Eddie Hearn. But there is also a huge prize on offer for the winner with a September date with former world champion Anthony Joshua at Wembley in September.
Dubois, 26, and Joshua were sparring partners once and the sport has been awash with rumours of the Londoner flooring the Olympic gold medallist.
Nobody has revealed if it ever happened but when it was put to Dubois that he can get a chance to do it for real, he said: “That’s exactly what I want to do. People will then see.

“This is my chance to get that big fight. But there’s a huge fighter in the way.” Hrgovic, 31, turned professional in 2016 after winning bronze the Rio Olympics and there was a lot of excitement about him.
But that has fizzled out with some below-par performances. Now he has a chance to really ignite his own career.
The prize on offer tonight is the interim IBF title but should the winner face Joshua in September then the full crown could be on the line if undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk is stripped of the belt.
Dubois has a mighty challenge on his hands but the chance to headline at Wembley in a huge domestic fight potentially for a world title is all he has wanted.
After two defeats on the road to get here with accusations of quitting in those fights against Joe Joyce and last year against Oleksandr Usyk, he must step up. “This is all I’ve ever wanted,” he said. “This is why I worked so hard as a kid. I made those sacrifices.
“I had to come through the tough times and now it is time to get the rewards. I’ve been through it all since I was young. Ups, downs, tough days.
“I’ve got to get through this guy first. I’ve got to put him to sleep. I’m upbeat, I’m ready to go. I want to get something out of this boxing game that I’ve given my whole life to.”
