Ukraine siding with Syrian rebels to assault Russia is like how Brits beat Nazis
Ukrainian forces are siding with Syrian rebels to attack Russian targets in a move described by an expert as an “excellent thing from everyone’s perspective.”
Professor Anthony Glees, a security and intelligence expert at the University of Buckingham gave his insight into what has been dubbed a “significant development in the ongoing conflicts.”
It comes after footage obtained by the Kyiv Post reveals Ukrainian special forces and Syrian rebels collaborating to dismantle Russian mercenaries in Syria. The video, dated March 2024, highlights these strategic assaults, the Daily Express reports.

The Ukrainian special unit “Khimik,” in cooperation with Syrian opposition groups, is focusing its operations on Russian mercenaries supporting the Bashar al-Assad regime.
Intense fighting is concentrated in Syria’s southern region, particularly in the Golan Heights, where Russian military forces are heavily entrenched.
Speaking exclusively to the Star, Professor Glees said the move is reminiscent of how Britain took on Hitler and the Nazis.
He said: “Syria’s leader, Bashar al-Assad is not only 100% on Putin’s side, but relies totally on Putin’s soldiers to stay in power, so this is about Ukraine siding with Syrian rebels who want to attack Russian forces in Syria, and so overthrow al-Assad which would be an excellent thing from everyone’s perspective.
“Ukraine is attacking Putin’s armed forces wherever it can do so.
“This may well be a tacit compliment to us Brits.”
Prof Glees recalled General Montgomery’s “brilliant victory” over the Nazi ‘Desert Fox’ General Manfred Rommel’s Afrika Korps in the autumn of 1942.
“This was an amazing victory over the Germans which stopped Hitler from advancing on Egypt and so bringing his ‘Final Solution’ – the extermination of the Jews – to the Middle East,” he said.
“But we were fighting Hitler in North Africa because we were still too weak to fight him in his ‘Fortress Europe.’ That needed another two years of preparation as we’re commemorating right now in our D-Day celebrations which began the mighty task of liberating Europe from the Fascist scourge.
“We fought Hitler and the Nazis wherever we could fight to win. In 1942 that meant North Africa.”
Professor Glees added: “This is what Ukraine is doing in Syria. They are still too weak to drive Russia out of Ukraine but they can get them in the Golan Heights, and perhaps in sub-Saharan Africa where Prigo’s men are still busy fighting.
“What the Ukrainian special forces unit ”Khimik’ is busy doing is attacking the remnants of Prigozhin’s rag-tag Wagner mercenary force along the Syrian border with Israel. They’ve been there since 2015 when Parliament voted to stop Cameron attacking Assad.
“The Ukrainian special forces unit, run by Ukrainian military intelligence, the HUR, are striking at Russian strongholds, conveys and troop encampments. As their chief said a few days ago: ‘We will destroy the Russian war criminals anywhere in the world, wherever they are’.
“Good on them.”
