BBC breakfast star Charlie Stayt dealing with chapter

BBC breakfast star Charlie Stayt is facing bankruptcy after being served a petition by HMRC.

The morning show host, 61, and his actress wife Annie Breckell found themselves £6,409 in the red as they filed their company’s accounts in December last year.

The couple – who live in a £2.3million four-bedroom home in Twickenham, South West London – were threatened with bankruptcy by the government agency on Monday, The Sun reports.

Charlie joined Breakfast in 2006 and has hosted alongside the likes of Naga Munchetty, 49, and Susanna Reid, 53.

He has also taken over as the the main weekday host after Dan Walker left the show in April 2022.

His company – Stayt Limited – lists both Annie and Charlie as directors alongside Hogbens Dunphy Secretaries, an accountants and tax consultants based in central London.

The nature of the firm’s business is stated as television programming and broadcasting activities. 

The couple bought their Twickenham home in 2002 for £800,000. It has now sky-rocketed in value to as much as £2.3million. 

They have been together for more than 20 years and have two children, Pheobe and Jake, who are both grown up. It is believed that they still live at home with their parents, Hello! reports.

Charlie started his career working for ITN in 1995, before joining Five News, where he rose up the ranks to host their prime-time bulletins.

The star has remained down South despite his fellow co-stars relocating closer to Media City in Salford, Manchester, where the BBC show is broadcast from.
