Elderly England followers can cheer on 3 Lions at particular ‘nan zones’ round nation

Elderly England fans cheered on the Three Lions today (Thursday, June 20) at special ‘nan zones’.

‌Instead of pints of beer, crisps and pizza, the dedicated areas serve tea, coffee, cake, biscuits, quiche and cheese and crackers in front of a big screen.

‌The fan parks for OAPs were set up after research found around 1.9 million lonely over-65s faced tuning into England’s games on their own.

Asda, which installed the zones at stores in Liverpool, Manchester and Watford, said: “With traditional fan zones often overwhelmingly populated by more boisterous crowds, in a bid to combat loneliness and isolation, the new dedicated nan zone spaces have been specially created to cater to the older generation to ensure they don’t end up following the football alone at home.

“Each nan zone will give local elderly people the chance to unite over food, drink and football.

‌“The fan zones for senior citizens are completely free to enter and the areas will be decked out with football decorations and refreshments, offering a safe and friendly environment.”

‌The supermarket lays on the hot beverages and nibbles for free and provides complimentary transport to the venues – created to mark National Loneliness Awareness Week.
