Arsenal need England star as Arteta up for participant swap however Liverpool in race

Arsenal are ready to offer up Eddie Nketiah as part of a deal for Marc Guehi.

The Gunners are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing Guehi, who flourished for England at Euro 2024. It’s understood Liverpool and Manchester United also all had spies watching him in Germany.

Mikel Arteta wants to bolster his back line this summer and Guehi, 24, has been earmarked as a top target. But the north Londoners need to manage their finances and are looking at ways to bring Crystal Palace‘s £70 million asking price down.

Nketiah, meanwhile, is deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates and Arsenal would be prepared to include him in a cash plus player deal. Palace have a long-running interest in the 25-year-old and remain keen on bringing him to Selhurst Park.

Lewisham-born Nketiah also still has family and friends south of the river. However, Palace bigwigs are not in a rush to make a decision about Guehi’s future.

The versatile defender was signed from Chelsea in 2021 and the terms of that deal included a hefty sell-on clause. New Liverpool boss Arne Slot is ready to test the water, though.

The Reds still need to replace Joel Matip, who left the club when his contract expired at the end of last season, and the Dutch chief wants transfer talks to start with Guehi and Palace immediately.

Liverpool meanwhile are also said to be close to completing a transfer for Real Sociedad ace Takefusa Kubo, who it has been claimed is nearing a lucrative move to Anfield.

Japanese media outlet Sponichi report the deal is ‘in the final stages’ following a visit by the player’s representatives to England.

Liverpool are expected to shell out approximately £55million for Kubo, who is being touted as the long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.
