‘I had reputation for bonking at Olympics – when I raced I felt lighter’
An Olympic Games medallist once claimed sex makes them run faster.
A gold medalist and veteran of two instalments of the games, who asked to remain anonymous in a previous interview, opened up about their raunchy activities within the Olympic village. As well as the sport on show, the Games are famed for their X-rated nature when it comes to the village.
A total of 200,000 condoms, 20,000 female condoms and 10,000 dental dams were sent to the village in Paris this year. With around 10,500 competitors in the French capital, that equates to round 20 condoms per person. However, one star’s penchant for hanky panky would’ve left them needing a fair deal more – not least because intercourse even made them faster.

In a previous interview with CNN, the mystery athlete explained their coach was always concerned about them having sex before a race. They said: “The athletes don’t know what to expect the first time they go to the Olympics, but it just happens.
“As soon as you finish competing there’s no sleeping until the next day! Many of the volunteers (in the village) would say ‘Oh, what is your room like?’ and I knew they were not really wanting to see the room. It’s just fun, they are excited to be with the athletes.
“You talk, you go to your room. Let me say this … there were lots of volunteers and they were happy to help you with whatever your needs were.

“My roommate and I would put something on the door so we would know if the other was ‘busy’. I feel bad to say it but my coach actually guarded the door the night before me and my roommate were racing (because of our reputations)!
“But it didn’t affect me like that. When I raced after sex I felt light on my feet. We were young and most of the people I hung out with were single. Hope Solo told it basically like it is.”
Plenty of athletes have been open about the shenanigans that go on in the Olympic village. Solo is the legendary goalkeeper of the USA women’s football team and has two Olympic gold medals to her name.
She was equally as candid discussing her experience of the village. “There’s a lot of sex going on,” admitted Solo in an interview with ESPN magazine before the Games in London 2012.
She added: “With a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you want to build memories, whether it’s sexual, partying or on the field. I’ve seen people having sex right out in the open. On the grass, between buildings, people are getting down and dirty.”
Many Olympic fans may be surprised by those accounts. But the anonymous athlete who spoke to CNN believes sex has become a key part of the Games themselves.
They added: “Anyone who wants to be naive and say they don’t know what’s going on in the Village are lying to themselves. They know, the officials know, even the media. It’s not a secret, everyone knows! (Sex) is all part of the Olympic spirit. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wouldn’t say that, but it is, you can’t shy away from it. Why do you think they give away so many condoms?”
