Olympic athlete disqualified from occasion simply seconds into her efficiency

A breakdancer was booted out of the Olympics – despite being just seconds into her performance.

Afghani Manizha Talas – who goes by the name Talash – was taking part in the first ever breakdancing event when she unveiled a cape.

Talesh, who is just 21-years-old, was instantly disqualified after highlighting concerns over women’s rights in her country.

The young athlete was representing the refugee team after she fled her country when the Taliban took power back in August 2021 – and she now lives in Spain with her little brother who is 12.

She unveiled a cape with the words: ‘Free Afghan Women’

During her short-lived performance in Paris on Friday (August 9) she took off her sweater to expose a blue cape with the words: ‘Free Afghan Women.’

The crowd cheered in response and explaining her actions, she said: “I wanted to show people what is possible.”

Despite taking it a stand, she was axed from the competition for breaking the World DanceSport Federation policy of ‘displaying a political slogan’.

The athlete has received death threats since leaving her homeland

Talesh – who has received death threats for fleeing her homeland – had already been eliminated in the preliminary qualification stage but was allowed to do a fresh routine – despite it not lasting long.

Her powerful statement coincided with breakdancing making its Olympic debut in Paris – but the sport is not included in the 2028 Olympics in LA.
