Olympic star’s medal taken away over ‘continual concern’ sparking Team GB complaints

Irish rowing sensation Daire Lynch has spilled the beans on his bronze medal debacle, confessing he had to hand back his prize due to a “chronic issue” causing it to fall apart.

The Olympic medallist, who stormed to third place alongside sidekick Philip Doyle, revealed that the Paris Games bigwigs nabbed back the dodgy medal because it was crumbling to bits. Talking on Irish TV, the dynamic duo also dropped that even the top-notch gold medals haven’t been immune to the drama.

Doyle said: “Mine is gone, wrecked. It’s nearly gone the next layer down,” while Lynch added: “I wanted to keep mine but they wanted to take it away for research. They want to see what is wrong with the medals.”

Then Doyle chimed in again, dishing out, “Some of the gold but not too many but the bronze seems to be a chronic issue.” It’s come out that the gongs have a core made of silver no wonder the silver medallists aren’t kicking up a fuss!” reports the Mirror.

Each medal comes with a bit of the Eiffel Tower stuck on the back, plus the event details and the athlete’s name engraved at the bottom. But here’s the kicker during the Games, Team GB’s diving dynamo Yasmin Harper blabbed that the medals were already looking worse for wear before the athletes even waved au revoir to Paris.

Great Britain’s earliest winner at the Games noticed her bronze was getting “a little bit tarnished” and “discoloured”, echoing the Americans after US skate star Nyjah Huston blew the whistle on their shoddy state online.

Harper scored a diving bronze for Team GB at the European Championships, alongside her ace pal Scarlett Mew Jensen. But the bling isn’t looking too shiny anymore and she’s noticed a bit of tarnish on her gong already.

“There’s been some small bits of tarnishing I will admit, yes,” Harper revealed. “I’ve looked at mine. It’s like water or anything that gets on the metal is making it go a little discoloured. I’m not sure.”

When asked if this was getting to her, Harper shrugged it off, saying: “No, because it’s still a medal.” Ireland smashed it out of the park with a record seven medals, bagging a fantastic four golds.

Team GB didn’t do too shabby either, nabbing 65 medals in total – almost hitting the bullseye of UK Sport’s target.
