Olympic star tried to idiot coach she was injured earlier than viral twerk celebration
Olympic bronze medallist Alysha Newman has explained she faked an injury to shock her coaches seconds prior to delivering her famous viral twerking celebration.
The Canadian secured bronze in the Women’s Pole Vault, vaulting 4.85 meters to take her spot on the podium alongside the USA’s Katie Moon (silver) and Australia’s Nina Kennedy (gold). Following her medal-winning jump, the 30-year-old got to her feet and jogged in the direction of her friends, family and coaches.
But, she then went and grabbed her thigh as if she had been struck down with an injury following the most important vault of her career. However, Newman then broke into a quick twerking celebration which went viral on social media.

And speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport, Newman revealed the injury twerk transition celebration came to her naturally, with the Canadian’s aiming to tease and shock her coaches. Newman said: “It’s so funny because again, the Olympics comes around every four years.
“So you don’t really get to know each of the athletes on a personal level, and if you knew me from the years before, after every Canadian record I’ve always done either backflip or I yell or a I do a celebration dance.

“So I’ve always had a celebration that just comes out – that’s natural. So I didn’t have much thought about what I wanted to do. I just knew I wanted to spice something up when I knew I was close to a medal, when I was close to a Canadian record. I had to get some energy.
“I didn’t know what I was going to do but I knew in my head I wanted to shock my coaches. So I pretended to grab my leg like I got hurt, and then I just did a dance, and whatever natural came to me.
“I could have done something different and it would have just came to me and people would have made fun of me. I just went into the twerk and I guess it hit! It just went viral.
Newman’s twerking celebration capped off a stunning evening inside the Stade de France for the athletic discipline.
On the same evening Newman made waves on social media for her celebration following her impressive jump, Sweden’s Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis broke the world record in the Men’s Pole Vault final, vaulting 6.25 meters after having already secured gold.
And Newman, who also has an OnlyFans account, admitted while her coaches would have been “p***ed” had she actually been injured, they, alongside her friends and family all enjoyed what turned out to be a superb evening of entertainment in Paris.
“They’d be p***ed [if I got injured],” Newman added. “They’d be like here we go again. We’ve got to get back from injury again.
“And that’s been my story, everyone says, ‘if Alysha Newman is injured, she’s not going to jump high, but if she’s happy and healthy, she could break the world record.’ And they’ve said this multiple times.
“And so it’s so funny that when you speak to my agents, my friends, they all said it was so entertaining to watch. They said other people that were around my coaches were like we’ve never seen such entertainment in the women’s pole vault ever because Mondo [Armand] Duplantis had just broken the world record.
“So that’s entertaining. They want to see the best of the best athletes. But they said it was so fun how much energy Alysha brought to us, they were here and I was like ‘I see you, I hear you.
“And I want you to yell and scream and clap and be involved’. So it was a really cool connection with the stands. Everyone loved it, I could hear people laughing and getting energetic off of it.”
