Asked if Sancho was staying put, the gaffer dropped a casual “As far as I know, yes.”
However, he now looks set to join Chelsea initially on loan with a commitment to buy next summer, as the two clubs negotiate the purchase price.
Sancho is believed to be eager to join Chelsea, despite stiff competition on the Blues’ wings from Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku and Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Rumours had circulated that either Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell or Carney Chukwuemeka might head in the opposite direction, but there’s no hint that any member of Enzo Maresca’s ‘bomb squad’ will be included in a deal for Sancho.
Chelsea could continue their spending spree after Sancho’s arrival, with the club poised to push ahead on a mega deal for Napoli sensation Victor Osimhen, but only if the striker agrees to their incentive-based wage structure.
