Weird Russian TV cranks need Brits to ‘swim’ in ‘radioactive nuclear tsunami’

An odd Russian TV crank has suggested drenching the UK with a mega-tsunami of radioactive floods.

Furious hardliners on the Kremlin’s Rossiya-1 propaganda channel spoke of a “radical option” to stop the West including the UK from giving Ukraine permission to make long-range missile strikes.

MP and Putin stooge Andrey Gurulev suggested using Poseidon, a nuclear-armed torpedo it is feared could cause massive floods and the deaths of millions.

“Swim, swim, swim,” Gurulev said.

A former tank commander and lieutenant general, Gurulev argued: “There is, of course, a more radical option. The people of Britain are there, they also want to live a good and happy life at our expense, right? But if there is no Britain, there is no problem.”

Russian new agency TASS said tests on the main components of Poseidon had been completed in January last year.

This week, the UK said it will send 650 lightweight multirole missiles (LMM) to Ukraine. The LMM is described as highly versatile against a wide range of threats, including armoured personnel carriers, fast in-shore attack craft and unmanned drones.

It can fly at Mach 1.5 with a range of more than 6km and it is hoped it will bolster Ukraine’s defence against Russian air attacks.

Defence Secretary, John Healey MP said: “This new commitment will give an important boost to Ukraine’s air defences and demonstrates our new government’s commitment to stepping up support for Ukraine.

“In recent days we have seen the tragic cost of Russia’s indiscriminate strikes on Poltava and Lviv. These new UK-made missiles will support Ukraine to defend its people, infrastructure, and territory from Putin’s brutal attacks.”

Ukraine continues to face long-range missile bombardment from Russia with scores of drones shot down on Saturday.

The Ukrainian Air Force said 67 drones were launched over the country overnight, with air defences active in 11 regions, including in the capital, Kyiv. Fifty-eight drones were shot down, with three more destroyed by electronic weapons systems, it said.

The bombardment follows a week of increased long-range attacks across Ukraine, including a missile strike on a Ukrainian military academy and hospital on Tuesday in the city of Poltava that killed 55 people and wounded 328 more.

Funerals were taking place in Poltava on Saturday for some of the victims.

Another attack on Wednesday on Lviv – a city near the border with NATO member Poland and far from the front lines – killed seven people, including a mother and her three daughters.
