Chubby cat named ‘Crumbs’ is ‘too fats to stroll’ and has to hit the treadmill

A giant cat weighing in at a whopping 38 pounds (2.7 stone) was found in a basement.

The ginger cat, named Crumbs, was thought to be gouging on a diet of biscuits and soup for his whole life. When he was found, he could not even get up and walk to his rescuers because he was so big.

Crumbs was living in a basement of a hospital in Perm, Russia. It’s not clear how he got so huge, but rescuers believe staff would constantly feed the animal when they saw him.

Now he has been rescued, vets have to carry him around duets his inability to move. Crumbs has since been rehomed, and the new family have big plans to slim him down.

In order to be considered healthy, Crumbs will have to shed 28 pounds to get to 10lbs. Almost three-quarters of the cat’s weight go but it will prove a mammoth task due to him not being able to move and exercise freely.

His original owners appeared to abandon him, which led him to make a home in the basement of the hospital. He is known as Kroshik, the Russian translation of Crumbs. The staff gave him the name due to his eating abilities.

Vets immediately took him in following his discovery. They tried to give him an ultrasound, which failed due to his thick layers of fat. Because of this, a new treatment plan was drawn out.

Matroskin Shelter have put him on a strict diet at first so he gets small enough to be able to move and walk. After this, he will be put on a treadmill everyday for exercise.

Having gained attention, the vets spoke about the case to the local media. “Kroshik’s story is an extremely rare case when someone loved a cat so much that they fed him to such a state.”

Vet bills are often pricey, but the centre revealed they’re happy to cover the price of treatment. However, the diet plan is expected to be a long road for the cat, who will need to lose around 150 grams every week to reach his target weight.
