Europe’s forgotten wonderkid nets brace throughout well-known Europa League night
There was a time not so long ago Jens Petter Hauge was being courted by Manchester United.
Hauge, 24, has already had enough ups and downs to fill most careers – but, on Wednesday, he was back on top. Hauge dipped and weaved his way around Porto’s defence, twice, en route to another famous European evening above the Arctic Circle.
The winger first burst onto the scene as part of Bodo/Glimt’s side that shocked Norwegian football, winning the top division one season after earning promotion.

Hauge was the young prince of the frozen north as they took their exploits into Europe and to Milan.
So enamoured were the Rossoneri with Hauge’s performance in a narrow 3-2 loss for the Norwegians they wasted little time in securing his signature. He would never kick on at Milan, and was moved onto Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 – where he won the Europa League.
Hauge is now back in Norway on loan at Glimt after falling out of favour in the Bundesliga. However, against former European champions Porto he was back to his brilliant best.
Glimt were down to 10-men, but that didn’t stop them from taking the game to the giants – in a style that has been described as “kamikaze” down the years. Hauge netted twice as Glimt held onto a 3-2 win, shocking Porto on the first matchday of the Europa League.
“Jens Petter Hauge…the one who got away,” one fan sighed. While a second shared: “There’s no true Milan fan that isn’t genuinely happy for Hauge tonight. Good to see him get two goals and an assist against Porto. Dude is back!”
“Hauge turning back time omg,” a third posted. As a fourth gushed: “Hauge’s form here is a long time in the making, he had a shaky start back in Norway…but now he’s the main man upfront it’s a bit different. He thrived under the same pressure when he announced himself to Europe in the first place.”
And another added: “Jens Petter Hauge was a world class talent, career derailed, still a star.”
