Medics rush to place up covers after Europa League star suffers horror head harm

Sofiane Diop suffered a horror injury on Thursday evening.

Diop, 24, was turning out for Nice in their clash with Hungarian giants Ferencvaros when he went down after clashing heads with a teammate midway through the first half at the Groupama Arena in their Europa League clash.

Ferencvaros defenders urged medics to quickly attend the duo, and screens were put up around Diop as a hush fell over the stadium. Diop was receiving treatment for several minutes but emerged without any serious injury.

Diop walked away under his own steam – and he was strapped up by the medical team with a bandage, with blood seemingly visible on the back of his head.

Amazingly, Diop was able to play on, much to the shock of fans on social media. One fan shared: “It’s not serious to keep Sofiane Diop in this match! He needs to get stitched up and go out!”

Nice went into the second half trailing – and it was then when manager Franck Haise decided to hook the star. The French side were unable to turn around the deficit, handing the Hungarian giants the three points as they imploded in the final ten minutes.

Pablo Rosario was handed his marching orders for a rash challenge that reduced Nice to ten men.

“Today was a very, very bad evening. We need to be a little more efficient. We need to raise our level,” admitted full-back Ali Abdi after the game on French outlet Canal.

Nice are still winless in Europe – and now face an uphill task to qualify for the next phase.
