Social Media Explodes Over Donald Trump’s ‘More Soldiers’ On Greenland Talk

President Donald Trump caused yet more controversy Thursday by once again talking up the idea of America seizing control of the autonomous Danish territory of Greenland.

“We have to do it. We really need it for national security. I think that’s why NATO might have to get involved, in a way, as we really need Greenland for national security,” Trump told reporters during an Oval Office briefing alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Trump noted how U.S. service members are already stationed on the island and teased, “Maybe you’ll see more and more soldiers go there?”

“I don’t know,” he continued, before turning to Fox News personality-turned-Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to ask: “What do you think about that Pete? Don’t answer that Pete, don’t answer that.”

Critics used social media to slam Trump’s rhetoric.
