Lando Norris kept his cool to kick off his 2025 season with a win at the Australian Grand Prix. The British driver led Max Verstappen and George Russell to the finish line, while local favourite Oscar Piastri’s unfortunate spin knocked him out of the running.

The race was marked by immediate chaos as Lewis Hamilton only finished tenth in his Ferrari debut and newcomer Isack Hadjar crashed during the formation lap. This blunder by the Frenchman was followed by a crash from Jack Doohan, who lost control in the challenging conditions on the first lap.

Carlos Sainz also found himself in trouble under the subsequent safety car, losing control in the final corner and hitting the barriers.

When the race resumed, Verstappen put pressure on Norris for the lead. However, the Dutchman’s tyres wore out quickly, causing him to run wide in the final sector on lap 17 and surrender second place to Piastri.

Unleashed, the Aussie set his sights on his McLaren teammate. He got within DRS range but made an error approaching Turn Six, falling nearly three seconds behind before the safety car was brought out again due to a Fernando Alonso crash at the same corner, reports the Express.

On lap 44, rain added to the drama. Piastri lost control at the penultimate corner, falling a lap behind.

Gabriel Bortoleto and Liam Lawson also lost control in the treacherous conditions, triggering another safety car and reshuffling the order.

When the safety car finally pulled in, Norris stood firm under intense pressure from Verstappen. The Brit started his title campaign with maximum points at a rain-soaked Albert Park Circuit.
