Heathrow airport hearth conspiracy theories from sinister sabotage to ‘Russian involvement’
As Heathrow remains shut all day, people across the world are wondering how this could happen branding it “sinister” and some even saying ‘has anyone seen Vladimir Putin’
Worldwide travel plans have been thrown into chaos as Heathrow Airport has been forced to close for the whole day due to a huge blaze. However, the cause of the fire has not been released, leaving many to suspect foul play.
More than 1,300 flights to and from Heathrow Airport will be disrupted today (March 21) after a major blaze at a nearby electrical substation.
Richard Gaisford, chief correspondent for Good Morning Britain, said: “Heathrow Airport is a key piece of UK national infrastructure. Now brought to a standstill by a fire outside of its well protected boundaries, that creates chaos around the world. Security services must be considering sabotage.”
Nick Ferrari asked on his LBC Breakfast show “Has anyone seen Vladimir Putin?”
Social media is ablaze with people echoing Ferrari’s sentiment and asking if Russia is involved.
DevanaUkraine wrote on X: “Power station near Heathrow in flames – and no, I don’t believe in coincidences. Not after Putin suddenly ordered to stop striking Ukraine’s power grid. Not while London pushes for peacekeeping efforts. This is fear. This is hatred. This is Putin’s way of saying: “I’ll burn everything before I lose.” This isn’t just about Ukraine. This is a threat to NATO. And the sooner the world wakes up, the more chance we have to stop him.”
Another user wrote: “We are already in a hybrid war. Putin is paying criminals to conduct acts of sabotage and terror here. Stopping Heathrow with one well aimed act.”
A third wrote: “Someone smart, fair & unbribable better investigate this #Heathrow fire immediately because the timing is just too suspicious and the “attack an electrical substation to cause chaos for civilians” move is too painfully familiar. I hope this is an accident, not a warning shot.”
Many are also questioning how Heathrow has just one “single point of failure” as it took one substation fire to take out the whole airport.
Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, said on LBC: “We don’t yet have an understanding on the cause of the fire.”
However, government officials have been saying that it is “speculative” to suggest at the moment that something sinister caused the fire which has grounded flights at Heathrow.
The chairwoman of the Commons transport committee was asked by Times Radio if she thought the fire at an electricity substation may have been caused intentionally, Labour MP Ruth Cadbury replied: “I think that’s somewhat speculative.
“There are obviously questions about it, and I don’t know enough about electricity, but for the airport to be dependent on one substation, it does raise questions.”
She added it was “very, very concerning” that “one substation can close down an airport and there isn’t an alternative source of energy”.
A Heathrow spokesperson said: “Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage across the airport due to a large fire at a nearby electrical substation. Whilst fire crews are responding to the incident, we do not have clarity on when power may be reliably restored.”
