US ‘will not again Britain’ if Russia assaults attributable to extra chilling risk elsewhere

A confidential memo has revealed the US may not come to Europe’s aid in the event of a Russian attack as the Pentagon is more concerned with deterring China from Taiwan and bolstering defense measures on American soil

Brits could be left defending themselves in the event of a Russian attack – well, atleast, according to a confidential Pentagon document that was leaked. The internal memo is reported to prioritise deterring China’s ambitions over Taiwan and strengthening defence measures on U.S. soil and suggests the nation won’t assist Europe if an attack were to happen.

The Washington Post reports that parts of the memo bear a striking resemblance to a publication by a conservative think tank involved with Project 2025, almost mirroring it word for word.

Project 2025 is a political initiative to reshape the federal government of the United States and consolidate executive power in favour of right-wing policies.

The memo, from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, sets out the Hegseth’s view that the country is unlikely to offer significant support to Europe against Russian aggression. It underscores an expectation for NATO allies to take the lead role in defending their territory.

The guidance suggests that the United States will provide nuclear deterrence against Russia but will only commit forces that are not essential for homeland security or missions related to China, according to The Mirror.

The document highlights the need for greater defence contributions from European nations, stressing that this “will also ensure NATO can reliably deter or defeat Russian aggression even if deterrence fails and the United States is already engaged in, or must withhold forces to deter, a primary conflict in another region.”

The Pentagon’s latest memo syncs with President Trump’s global security worries, spotlighting vague threats from the “near abroad”.

As per the document, Trump argues that US forces must be “ready to defend American interests wherever they might be threatened in our hemisphere, from Greenland, to the Panama Canal, to Cape Horn.”

Tensions were heightened with Denmark, a NATO ally, following Trump’s bold statement on Friday, March 28: “We have to have Greenland”, as the country oversees the self-governing island’s foreign affairs and defence.

This interim guidance, covering nine pages, bears a notable resemblance to a forthcoming detailed report by the Heritage Foundation planned for release in 2024.
