Masters day one pairings revealed as followers go wild for Rory McIlroy’s ‘loopy’ opening group at Augusta
The starting times for the first and second rounds of the 89th Masters Tournament have been released ahead of Thursday’s opening round.
The field of 95 players will take to the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia to tee off for the first major of the year.
A jam-packed back half of the tee sheet will provide for some exciting late-day action in the first and second rounds that should satisfy any golf fan.
That includes Rory McIlroy‘s group that tees off at 1:12pm ET – with the Irishman grouped with last year’s runner-up, Ludvig Aberg, and American star Akshay Bhatia.
While the tournament begins at 7:40am with the pairing of Davis Riley and Patton Kizzire, the field really starts showing its quality around two hours later.
The 9:36 group of Robert MacIntyre of Scotland along with Americans Billy Horschel and Nick Dunlap leads into a powerhouse 9:47 grouping of major winner Collin Morikawa, Chilean LIV golfer Joaquin Niemann, and Houston Open winner Min Woo Lee of Australia.

First and second round groupings for the 89th Masters Tournament have been released
Just before 10 o’clock, former Masters winner Phil Mickelson tees off with former major winner Jason Day and US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.
That segues into the reigning champions grouping at 10:15am. Scottie Scheffler will start his defense of the green jacket in a group with two-time major winner Justin Thomas and Spanish amateur Jose Luis Ballester.
Following Scheffler, former Masters winner Jordan Spieth tees off with Tom Kim and Tyrrell Hatton to wrap up the star-studded portion of the early-day tee times.
Heat comes back on at noon with the group of Max Homa, Justin Rose, and JJ Spaun. About half an hour later, at 12:33, Patrick Cantlay tees off with Rasmus Hojgaard and Matt Fitzpatrick.
From there, it’s nothing but stars as far as the eye can see. 12:50 sees Brooks Koepka tee off with Russell Henley and Sungjae Im.
Immediately following that is former Masters winner Adam Scott with reigning PGA Championship and Open Championship winner Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland at 1:01.
McIlroy’s group is next, followed by the 1:23 pairing of former Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama, US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, and Shane Lowry.
The final two groups of the day are equally enjoyable. 1:34pm sees a pair of major winners – Jon Rahm and Wyndham Clark – teeing off with Tommy Fleetwood.
The final group goes off at 1:45 and features Sahith Theegala, Sepp Straka, and Sam Burns.
