The outrageous Inbetweeners jokes you might NEVER make now as hit sitcom tipped to return with unlikely revival after years of forged feuding and lead stars ruling out comeback

It’s known and loved by its fans for its outrageous and cringe-worthy action, but that doesn’t mean that Channel 4‘s hit sitcom The Inbetweeners doesn’t raise eyebrows too.

The series, which was launched in 2008, followed socially awkward pals Will, Jay, Simon and Neil navigating adolescence through a series of hilarious situations.

Packed with relatable teenage experiences, the three seasons, two follow-on films and two reunion specials, drew in audiences in their millions.

Since it last aired in 2010, with its final movie hitting the silver screen in 2014 and a brief reunion in 2019, viewers have been desperately calling out for more, despite its stars, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison now world’s away from the age of their teenage characters.

This week, show creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris delighted viewers by teasing a fourth series might finally be on the cards.

The production company owned by Beesley and Morris, Fudge Park, signed a new partnership with TV company Banijay UK before making the big announcement.

‘Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends),’ the duo hinted in a statement following the deal.

While no more details followed, the statement added that the deal ‘unlocks the rights and the potential to bring back for new audiences across a range of platforms including film, TV, and stage’.

Last year, Joe, who played teen character Simon, revealed that the cast were keen to return to a project together, admitting they’d ‘jump at the chance’.

But his co-star Simon, 41, best known for portraying Will in the series, ‘poured cold water’ on the rumours of an upcoming film saying there was ‘no prospect’ of his return.

An industry insider even told Daily Mail: ‘None of them are really mates and they haven’t been for a few years… they are all dads now and moved on with their lives.

‘There’s as much chance of a comeback for The Beatles.’

A reunion looked even less likely when it was rumoured there were bad feelings between Emily Atack, who played the boys’ school crush Charlotte, and James, 38, who played foul-mouthed Jay.

It was reported that this led to Emily, 35, being axed from a reunion show Fwends Reunited on Channel 4 in 2019, with James saying: ‘It’s her or me.’

The popular series ran for three seasons and was followed up by two films

Other insiders even suggested that the foursome are embarrassed their juvenile antics on the show may damage their careers, particularly James, who was best known on the series for his crude descriptions of his imagined sexual conquests.

Nonetheless, with more than 15 years passing since its debut, and comedy tastes changing, the show’s creators will have to be more careful when it comes to choosing their outrageous jokes to pack out the rumoured new project.

Here, we look back over the most outrageous jokes included in the show’s three-series run – from homophobic slurs to graphic sexual descriptions.

Warning: crude and adult humour to follow.

Jay’s fears of ‘royal bloke’ the Duke of Edinburgh

In the sitcom’s second series, the fifth episode sees Will asked to co-ordinate the school’s Duke of Edinburgh award scheme by teacher Mr Gilbert.

The scheme, which is also completed by real-life students, sees young people between 14 and 24 take part in an adventurous expedition.

Will is soon making the most of the situation, using it to his advantage as an opportunity to try to snare an older university student.

Explaining the award scheme to his three pals, Jay then makes a crude joke about the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip.

‘You’ve got to be f***ing joking! There’s no way I’m going to get b*****d by some royal bloke on a mountain,’ the teenage character says.

Jay warns of the police on first lads’ holiday

The franchise’s first film, released to audiences in 2011, sees the Will, Simon, Jay and Neil head off on their first boys’ holiday without their parents.

The foursome jet off to Malia to celebrate their final year of school together, with high hopes with impressing the girls they can find in the local area.

After an unsuccessful night out on the town, the action follows them walking home from the local bar to their dilapidated hotel room – with the police driving by.

Jay tells the group to ‘keep their heads down’ so as not to raise suspicions with the local police – and when Will questions him, he and Neil explain their shocking reason.

‘If you misbehave and don’t have the money to bribe them, they take you up to these shepherd’s huts in the hills, beat you up and b*m you,’ Jay tells him.

Neil then chimes in: ‘And if they don’t kill you, you kill yourself because of the shame of getting a b***r while getting b****d.’

Will hits out after Neil’s dad asks them to leave

In the second episode of the Channel 4 show’s first season, the boys take a secret day off from school and end up getting drunk at Neil’s house.

They are soon caught by Neil’s dad, Kevin Sutherland, played by Alex Macqueen – who is furious and asks the group of friends to leave, given he’s got a builder round to do some work on the house.

But the normally polite Will, having had too much to drink, isn’t having any of it.

After telling Neil’s dad to ‘p*** off’, Kevin soon retorts that he’s had ‘enough of Will’s lip’ before once again asking him to leave the home.

Will continues: ‘Oh you’d like my lip, wouldn’t you? Right round your b*****d, if Mr. Chippy doesn’t get there first!

‘What’s he gonna knock up, a closet for you to hide in? You B*****R!’

Neil reveals exactly how he feels about Will’s ‘fit’ mum

During the same episode, the four boys are seen discussing a variety of topics as they’re busy drinking in Neil’s home.

Viewers will know that Will’s mum Polly McKenzie, who is played by Belinda Stewart-Wilson, is often the object of the affection of Will’s friends.

But Neil makes it clear exactly how he feels, telling him: ‘Your mum is so fit, Will – I reckon she could be a prostitute.’

When he’s quizzed by Simon if he’s ever ‘had a w*** over Will’s mum’ and Will begs him not to, Neil continues: ‘Not yet. I can’t promise that I’m afraid.’

Jay renames his mum’s Nissan Micra

In the first episode of the show’s third series, James Buckley’s Jay gets behind the wheel of his mum’s red car to drive his friends to school.

In the episode, titled The Fashion Show, Emily Head’s Charli organises a fashion show for charity which, despite his initial opposition about, Will decides to model in.

As Jay pulls up to pick up Will, Neil and Simon, he reveals the crude nickname he’s given to the brightly coloured Nissan – and not without using a homophobic slur.

Shouting out the window, Jay says: ‘Morning b*****s, jump in the m***e mobile.’

Will compares Simon to a ‘mental patient’

The same episode follows Will as he takes part in the fashion show, alongside Emily’s Charlotte, as the pair walk down the catwalk together.

But it’s not Will who is most shocking to see strutting his stuff, albeit in a low cut neon top and a denim waistcoat, but Simon taking part with Carli.

Carli’s number sees her strip down to a saucy underwear and corset look, and asks Simon to join her on the runway in a pair of speedos and a top hat.

Unbeknownst to Simon, he has quite the wardrobe malfunction, with more on show than he bargained for as he performs the routine with a leash around his neck.

Dishing out his verdict, Will says: ‘Even with your whole sack covered you’d look ridiculous –  Speedos, DMs, top hat and a leash?

‘What maniac designed that and thought ‘I know what’s fashionable; dressing up as an upper class mental patient!”‘

Will’s family host a randy French exchange student

The Inbetweeners’ second series sees Will throw a birthday party at his home for his nearest and dearest, including his three closest friends.

The party is also crashed by French student Patrice, who Will’s family decides to host as part of a school exchange happening at Rudge Park Comprehensive.

In true show fashion, the party is quickly derailed by Patrice’s inappropriate behaviours – at one point stopping Will in his tracks with a very rude admission about what he’s been up to in his bedroom.

The student tells him: ‘I’ve just had a really nice tug, thinking about your mother, and I think some went on the floor, sorry.’

Embarrassed Will responds: ‘Great. Thanks, Patrice.’

Will shouts at disabled Thorpe Park visitors

Thorpe Park is an episode in the first season of the show, which follows the four boys on a trip to the real-life amusement park.

After Will goes on and on about wanting to try out a new ride, the foursome queue in order to secure the ‘best’ front row seats on rollercoaster Nemesis Inferno.

But as the final ride rolls round, a member of staff is seen asking them to sit at the back – as a group of three young men instead take the seats the front.

Unable to see the three clearly, Will is seen shouting: ‘We’ve spent over an hour queuing specifically for the front and they’ve pushed in – get them off.

‘Get them off, get them off and make them move – f***ing pushing in!’

When Will eventually caves and decides to ‘sit at the front on his own’ in the remaining seat, he continues: ‘Are they so dumb they think it’s okay to push in?

‘F***ing fine, I’ll just get on and sit at the front next to these inconsiderate a*******s.’

The camera then pans round to reveal the three young men sat alongside him have Downs Syndrome, and are visiting the park on a day out with a charity.

Jay dishes out vulgar details of imaginary exploits

Fans of The Inbetweeners will know that the character of Jay doesn’t hold back when it comes to describing what he gets up to with the ladies, at least in his mind.

The sex-crazed teen has a number of moments throughout the three series where he describes the sex acts he pretends to perform.

But in the third series, things are taken one step further with disgusting details as the boys head out of town in an episode titled The Trip to Warwick.

Discussing his girlfriend Tara’s flat, Heike, from The Netherlands, Simon reveals: ‘She’s fit apparently, she’s Dutch’, to which Jay chimes in: ‘And always the filthiest’.

When he’s quizzed by his pals on how he knows, Jay continues: ‘I f***ed a Dutch girl, it was the West Ham U13’s football tour, when I f*****d her, she s*** down my arm.’

All episodes of The Inbetweeners are available to stream on Channel 4.
