Arsenal participant rankings as 5 stars shine whereas operating riot vs Atletico Madrid
Arsenal maintained their unbeaten record in the Champions League this season with a thumping 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night
Arsenal romped to a resounding victory over Atletico Madrid, keeping their Champions League unbeaten streak intact. The Gunners dominated the match, turning up the heat with a barrage of second-half goals.
Eberechi Eze nearly broke the deadlock early on, his shot from the edge of the box clattering off the crossbar.
Julian Alvarez had a go for the visitors in the second half, but it was Arsenal who struck gold. Gabriel Magalhaes headed home past Jan Oblak, thanks to a pinpoint assist from Declan Rice.
From there, it was all Arsenal as Gabriel Martinelli found the bottom corner shortly after. A double from Viktor Gyokeres sealed the deal, giving the Gunners a memorable European night at the Emirates.
Here’s how Daily Star Sport rated the Arsenal players following tonight’s thumping win…
David Raya, 6 – Had a close shave when he was left scrambling back towards his own goal. Otherwise, a solid performance, reports the Express.
Jurrien Timber, 8 – Continued to be a menace down the right flank, as he has been all season. Arguably the best in Europe in his position based on current form.
William Saliba, 7 – As usual, cool and collected at the back. His range of passing helped kick-start attacks from deep.
Gabriel Magalhaes, 8 – Shook off a shaky display against Fulham to return to his usual self tonight, capping it off with a well-taken goal.
Myles Lewis-Skelly, 6 – Put in a solid shift on the left flank, making sure to get involved in attacking plays.
Martin Zubimendi, 7 – Ran his socks off in midfield. He’ll be sitting out the match against Slavia Prague due to a booking.
Declan Rice, 7 – Fluffed an early golden opportunity to break the deadlock but redeemed himself with a spot-on free-kick that led to a goal.
Eberechi Eze, 7 – Smacked the crossbar early on with a deflected shot. Wasn’t at his creative best against Fulham but upped his game this time around.
Bukayo Saka, 8 – Had his marker’s number all night and was the engine behind most of the attacking moves. Another top-drawer display.
Gabriel Martinelli, 8 – Should have kept himself onside for the disallowed goal but made up for it with a superb finish to double Arsenal’s lead. A constant menace throughout the match.
Viktor Gyokeres, 8 – Put in a shift off the ball, made some smart runs and was rewarded with a brace to end his goal drought in style.
Cristhian Mosquera, 6 – Did what was asked of him at the back, although he wasn’t really put to the test.
Christian Norgaard, 6 – Kept the midfield ticking over to see out the match.
Ethan Nwaneri, 6 – Injected some energy when he came on, albeit after the damage had been done.
Mikel Merino, n/a – Came on too late to make an impact.
Ben White, n/a – Came on too late to make an impact.
