Eastern Airways cancels all flights as UK airline immediately suspends operations

The regional airline, which operated from six UK airports, has halted all flights with immediate effect the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said

UK domestic airline Eastern Airways has suspended operations and cancelled all of its flights.

The regional carrier, which operated from six UK airports, is not running any services, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said, urging customers not to travel to the airport.

Eastern Airways served destinations including Aberdeen, Humberside, London Gatwick, Newquay, Teesside International and Wick, according to its website. On Monday morning, the company filed a notice of its intention to appoint an administrator at the Insolvency and Companies Court, which is within the High Court.

Selina Chadha, consumer and markets director at the CAA, said: “We urge passengers planning to fly with this airline not to go to the airport as all Eastern Airways flights are cancelled. Eastern Airways customers should visit the Civil Aviation Authority’s website for the latest information.”, reports the Mirror.

Affected customers are advised to arrange alternative travel via other airlines, trains or coaches.

London North Eastern Railway, ScotRail, TransPennine Express and Northern will offer free standard-class travel to the airline’s staff and customers on October 28 and 29.

The offer applies on suitable routes run by each train company, the CAA said. Passengers must present an Eastern Airways employee ID, boarding pass or flight confirmation to station staff to access the offer.

Last week one of the UK’s busiest airports was hit with severe delays due to runway issues. Flights were grounded overnight, affecting thousands of passengers.

Several flights had to be cancelled as planes were not permitted to take off from Leeds Bradford Airport on Friday (October 24). Air traffic control did not give clearance for flights to resume until 5am on Saturday morning (October 25).

As a result, airlines such as Jet2 and Ryanair that operate from the airport were advised to prepare for delays due to the incident. The first flight out of the airport on Saturday morning was a Jet2 service heading for Heraklion on the Greek island of Crete.

According to the Sun, flights that were scheduled to land at Leeds Bradford Airport had to be diverted to other UK airports due to problems with the runway. However, while passengers were able to continue their journeys, the airport did advise those planning to fly to check with their airlines for any further delays.

Leeds Bradford Airport is typically open 24 hours and serves a range of European holiday destinations. However, after issues were identified on the airport’s runway, precautions were taken and the terminal was closed for the night.
