Asda’s Christmas advert launches at present starring the vacation’s greatest hater – The Grinch
Asda has launched its new Christmas campaign with a little help from a familiar green furry friend, the Grinch, proving the retailer can convert even the biggest Christmas cynic with its Asda prices
Today Asda has unveiled its new Christmas campaign with assistance from a familiar green furry companion, the Grinch, demonstrating the retailer can win over even the most ardent Christmas sceptic with its exceptional product selection and Asda prices.
A 90-second advert will debut on Asda’s social platforms at 7am on Saturday, November 1, before a 60-second version broadcasts on television for the first time on ITV1 at 8.30pm during the 1% Club advertisement break.
Based on the concept that everyone has that one family member who can be somewhat ‘grinchy’ about Christmas, the advertisement opens as residents mingle and browse in a Christmas market.
A snowflake descends from the sky and settles on the nose of the main character – the Grinch – as he grumbles about the “frightful” prices and “spenny gifts” that the festive season brings, to the tune of Let it Snow.
Because he’s almost out of dough, his answer is “no, no, no” until Asda’s distant green glow, like a shining star in the sky, draws him in and starts to melt his heart.
As he strolls the aisles with his human family and cheerfully fills his trolley, he’s heard asking if he’s “even beginning to enjoy shopping” as the store transforms into a cabaret of Christmas cheer.
He is amazed by some fantastic Asda Christmas products at even more impressive prices, including Chicken Sticky Skewers Frozen Party Food £2.47 and Sweetcorn Fritters £1.97, which are also available on a 3 for £5 deal, and of course the Grinch family set of pyjamas starting from just £7.
With bags brimming and a “wallet that’s no longer crying”, the party relocates to home, where all those who “call him tight” can witness that he’s brought the festivities to them.
The advert concludes with the Grinch answering the door, before stepping outside and reverting back to his human ‘dad’ form in a spectacular finale.
In a departure from traditional Christmas campaigns, this initiative stays true to the supermarket’s ongoing strategy, That’s Asda Price, which is centred around providing low prices to hard-working families seeking value – especially during the holiday season.
Rachel Eyre, Chief Customer Officer at Asda, expressed her excitement: “We’re so excited to launch this year’s Christmas campaign. We all love Christmas, but we also know it can come with financial pressures. That’s why this year, we’re focused on helping everyone enjoy the festive season we all deserve, filled with joy, celebration, and the reassurance of Asda Price.
“If we can win over the Grinch, the biggest cynic of all, then we know that with our unmatchable mix – amazing products at unbeatable value – we can all have a truly fabulous Christmas together at Asda.”
From turkeys to trimmings, smoked salmon to festive fizz, and show-stopping desserts, Asda is gearing up to offer some fantastic deals this Christmas season.
The supermarket also clinched the runner-up spot in this year’s esteemed Good Housekeeping Christmas taste test, boasting 10 products that took first and second place. In the same test, Asda was crowned “best for wines Christmas 2025”, proving that top-notch quality and affordable prices can indeed go together.
That’s Asda Price.
