I received £110k on The Wheel – my movie star companion refused to assist me in essential second so intense I’ve blocked it from reminiscence

A contestant who won £110,000 on Michael McIntyre‘s The Wheel has revealed how some of the experience is missing from her memory because of how intense the final moments of the show felt.

Lollypop lady Sally, who appeared on the BBC One programme earlier this month, decided to apply to be a contestant on the show after battling lung cancer

After receiving the all-clear earlier this year, Sally had high hopes to win a large cash prize to share with the friends that rallied around her during treatment.

Joining host Michael, 49, Sally was helped along the way by Roman Kemp, Katherine Ryan, Jill Scott, Susan Wokoma, Layton Williams, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Traitors star Joe Marler.

Sally, 55, told viewers at home: ‘My partner Mark and I have a dream of buying a van to convert into a campervan. We’ve got all the equipment, but we are missing a vital component – which is the van.

‘And if there was a little bit left over, five years ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer, and my friends were absolutely amazing and were with me every step of the way.

‘I also got the all-clear in March! So, I would love to treat them and pay them back.’

After successfully building up the prize money to £55,000, Sally chose to double her money, and selected Traitors star Joe, 35, to help get her the winnings.

At £110,000, the prize money was the second highest ever total given away on the show, £6,000 behind a contestant in 2022.

Reacting to her big win, Sally admitted that while her time on the show was ‘brilliant’, she had forgotten the main moment of her experience due to its stressful nature.

She told Chronicle Live: ‘When you’re when you’re waiting for the answer it seems like a lifetime, and I can’t actually remember that moment.

‘I can remember it being really revealed but the lead up to it, I really can’t remember.

‘It was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We were so well looked after. All the crew, all the production team, everybody was so friendly… it was just such good fun.’

Sally bagged the mammoth cash prize after correctly guessing the tough final question, which was from the category ‘martial arts’.

The question read: ‘The Welsh athlete Jade Jones has won two Olympic gold medals in which martial art? Kickboxing, Judo, Taekwondo or Karate?’

Anxious Joe was little help to Sally, saying: ‘I don’t want to do this. I feel sick.’

Sally managed to select the correct answer, locking in taekwando, after recalling seeing pictures of a ‘girl winning medals for kicking’ in the news.

Traitors star Joe backed the contestant saying he would’ve gone with the same answer, and trusted Sally to go with her ‘eyes and gut’.

When the correct answer was revealed, Sally was seen jumping up and down, screaming and hugging the celebrities taking part.

Breaking down in tears, Sally said: ‘Did that just happen? We can get our van and go on adventures, and I can treat my friends and thank them. What a year!

‘The all-clear in March and now this! But I’m not going to hang up my lollipop though!’

Wrapping up the episode, Michael said: ‘Nothing is better than making someone as happy as we’ve made you. Well done.’

It comes after Joe left Michael blushing as he made his return to The Wheel – with the former rugby ace offering to strip for the comedian.

He previously appeared as a celebrity panellist alongside host Michael, 49, in 2021 and 2023, but in the height of his Traitors popularity, will be back for more this week.

Michael looked to get more than he bargained for with the rugby player, as the sportsman offered to take his clothes off after he was quizzed about his stand-out matching tracksuit.

Grabbing host Michael’s attention with the brightly coloured two-piece, the comedian admitted: ‘You’ve caught my attention, I love what you’re wearing.’

‘Is it an all in one?’ Michael asked, to which a straight-faced Joe hit back: ‘No, I can take the top off if you want, or I can take off the bottoms.’

Questioning whether or not the white, orange and brown garb was an all-in-one style ‘boiler suit’, Joe continued: ‘No, no, it’s a two piece.’

And issuing a savage takedown, Michael then commented: ‘For me it looks like a baby grow – it looks like you’re a big beared baby.’

Unimpressed, Joe hit back: ‘Right, OK, I love you inviting me back on this show because you always make me feel so welcome.’

He left Michael squirming as he continued: ‘Would you like to cradle me? Cradle me in your bosom, now.’

The Wheel airs on BBC One at 8:20pm on Saturdays.
