American lady baffled by ‘lacking’ merchandise after attempting Toby Carvery for first time
An American woman was excited to try a ‘very highly recommended’ restaurant that they don’t have in the USA- Toby Carvery. But she was left disappointed by one missing item
An American tourist was buzzing with anticipation to sample a “very highly recommended” eatery that’s nowhere to be found across the pond – the legendary Toby Carvery. The beloved British pub chain is famous for its traditional Sunday roasts, and she was absolutely gagging to give it a go. Whilst queuing up for her meat selection, Amber Kacherian gushed that it “looks delicious,” mentioning she was already familiar with Yorkshire puddings.
She eagerly rubbed her palms together whilst waiting for her turn, practically bouncing with excitement. “Do you put the stuffing inside the Yorkshire pudding? I’m not really sure”, she wondered aloud, prompting a helpful staff member to suggest popping “anything you want” inside, particularly recommending “cheese or gravy”.
Amber was absolutely gobsmacked by the sheer variety of potato options on offer at the carvery.
“I think I’m just going to slather everything in gravy,” she declared – which is spot-on if you’re asking us!
She then raved about the brilliant drinks selection available at the self-service station.
“We’ve loaded our plates up,” she announced, filming everyone’s mountainous portions heaped with various meats. The group unanimously agreed everything looked “delicious,” though Amber did have one gripe about the experience.
She puzzled: “One thing that was noticeably absent from the carvery is beans! Where are the beans? I thought everywhere had beans in the UK”.
Most Brits would recoil in horror at the mere suggestion of beans accompanying a Sunday roast, and whilst we might enjoy our beans on toast or with a jacket spud, that doesn’t mean we fancy them cluttering up our traditional roast spread.
Amber remarked that the stuffing paired with gravy “tastes like home” as it reminded her of her beloved Thanksgiving feast back in the States.
She gushed that the entire meal transported her to Thanksgiving, leaving her thoroughly chuffed with her Toby Carvery experience.
She revealed she’d piled her plate with four different meats – roast beef, ham, turkey, and pork – praising the quality by declaring the “meat is really good” and describing it as “nice and tender and juicy”.
One of Amber’s mates grumbled about how Brits don’t season food during cooking, forcing diners to “add it after,” which is obviously down to personal taste. He compared this practice to “putting sugar on a cake after it’s been baked”.
Another companion wondered whether the carvery would “be defeating” him this time around, questioning if he’d manage to “clean the plate”. Fortunately, he rose to the challenge.
They then opted for pudding, which they declared was “delicious”. Amber observed that in “most places” across the UK, there’s the “option to add custard,” which she said she “wasn’t complaining about,” though she wished America offered the same luxury.
As Amber departed, she concluded: “That was some good food. I feel like I just ate a Thanksgiving dinner”. She then quipped it was time for them to “roll on home”.
But not before she spotted the advert for an “all you can eat breakfast” for just £7.99. “Well, we’re coming back,” she concluded the video by declaring.
