Huntingdon practice passengers have been ‘ready to combat again with bottle of Jack Daniel’s’

Police said 10 people were hospitalised, nine suffering life-threatening injuries, following the knife attack on the train in Huntingdon, which took place on the 6.25pm train service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday. Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Travellers aboard the train where multiple people were knifed yesterday were bracing themselves to fight back using a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey, according to one witness.

Officers confirmed that 10 individuals were rushed to hospital, with nine sustaining life-threatening wounds, after the horror rampage on the service in Huntingdon during Saturday’s 6.25pm journey from Doncaster to London King’s Cross.

Two suspects have been arrested over the horrific incident.

Eyewitnesses have recounted scenes where there was “blood everywhere” as people were getting “stamped” on amid the desperate scramble to flee.

Some travellers were reported to have sought refuge in the toilets, reports the Mirror.

Speaking to the BBC, Olly Foster revealed how passengers were left clutching just a bottle of Jack Daniel’s as their only means of protection.

He explained: “We had a Jack Daniel’s bottle between us and that was it… so we’re sitting there with one Jack Daniel’s bottle looking down this carriage, praying someone doesn’t walk down with a knife or a gun.”

Foster initially thought it might be a Halloween prank.

He also described how an elderly gentleman “blocked” the knifeman from attacking a young woman, resulting in wounds to his head and neck.

British Transport Police confirmed a major incident was declared, and at one stage announced “Plato” – the national emergency code used by police and rescue services when tackling a “marauding terror attack” – though this designation was later withdrawn.

Social media videos have captured the scene of numerous police cars and emergency vehicles swarming a station car park, along with an armed police squad rushing towards a stationary train at Huntingdon station.

Forensically suited officers, accompanied by a police dog, were spotted on the platform. It’s believed that the attack commenced shortly after the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) train departed from Peterborough station.

Chief Superintendent Chris Casey expressed his shock: “This is a shocking incident and first and foremost my thoughts are with those who have been injured this evening and their families.

“We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further.

“At this early stage it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident. Our response is ongoing at the station and will be for some time. Cordons are in place and trains are not currently running through the area, and there are also some road closures.”
