A man has died after a small plane crash-landed on a runway at a flight club in North Yorkshire.
Police and paramedics rushed to Sherburn Aero Club in Elmet near Leeds at around 1pm on Sunday.
A man in his 70s from the Leeds area died in the crash. He is believed to have been the only person onboard.
North Yorkshire Police said: ‘Just before 1pm today, we were called to reports of a light aircraft crash at Sherburn Aero Club.
‘It was reported that a small plane had crash-landed on the runway.
‘North Yorkshire Police attended along with other emergency services.
‘Sadly, a man in his 70s from the Leeds area, who is believed to be the sole occupant, was pronounced dead.
‘His family is currently being supported by specially trained officers and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.’
