Peter Crouch’s sensible response to Erling Haaland robotic dance purpose celebration

Erling Haaland copied Peter Crouch’s iconic celebration after scoring against Bournemouth, with the former Liverpool and England striker quick to respond on social media

Peter Crouch has reacted after witnessing Erling Haaland recreating his legendary robot goal celebration.

The former Liverpool and England striker first unveiled the dance moves back in 2006 while representing his country. The moment has remained one of football’s most memorable celebrations, and the Manchester City star mimicked Crouch’s routine as he found the net against Bournemouth on Sunday to keep the pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

Crouch originally performed the robot celebration 19 years ago following his goal for England in a friendly against Hungary – repeating the feat days later during a victory over Jamaica. The retired footballer was swift to react on social media upon seeing Haaland’s tribute.

Quipping that he had paved the way for future players to adopt the celebration, the 44-year-old posted online: “I walked so they could run.”

Crouch would later dust off the robot when he netted his 100th Premier League goal while playing for Stoke. Haaland’s double strike helped City return to form and takes his Premier League tally to 13 goals this campaign.

The striker has been in scintillating form and could potentially challenge the record he established in 2022/23 for most goals in a single season, reports the Mirror.

The Norwegian revealed his determination to restore the team’s winning mentality following last weekend’s disappointment. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Important win. It is good to bounce back after losing a bad away game. It was nice. I tried to contribute for the team by doing my job.

“It is good to win. Now two more important games to come, so keep focusing. I didn’t score last game. I try to help the team to win. That is my goal and even by scoring or helping in winning duels it doesn’t matter. I want to help the team become better, that is my job.”

Haaland has bagged 17 goals across all competitions this season and continues to be City’s main threat in attack. Pep Guardiola substituted him despite the striker chasing his hat-trick, but the boss couldn’t help but draw comparisons with football’s greatest legends.

“This is what it’s like if you play with Messi or Ronaldo, his influence is so big,” the City manager declared. “You see the numbers of that guy? Of course he’s that level. Messi and Ronaldo have done it for 15 years, but this is the level. The first goal, the way he shoots the ball, it’s like ‘I am going to score’.

“He has that hunger. It’s top. I said how incredibly coachable and manageable he is. I am tough sometimes with Haaland, but he is open-minded. He lives for the goals and sometimes the pressure cannot sustain 90 minutes, but that’s normal.”
