Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals true colors with response to Liverpool followers’ boos
Trent Alexander-Arnold made his return to Anfield as a Real Madrid player in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Liverpool on Tuesday evening
Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold made his comeback to Anfield to a symphony of jeers from the Kop ahead of the Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.
The full-back, who departed for the Spanish giants during the summer after allowing his contract to expire, was named among the substitutes for Xabi Alonso’s squad this evening and wasn’t included in the starting eleven who were collectively whistled as they emerged onto the pitch.
The England star instead made his entrance alongside his fellow reserves moments later, stepping onto the turf solo after sharing warm embraces with various Liverpool staff members in the tunnel.
Alexander-Arnold was all smiles despite the hostile reception from the Liverpool supporters as he walked onto the field.
With Amazon Prime presenter Gabby Logan observing: “Some fans have just got a glimpse of him there as he says hello to members of staff. He’s ready for this.”
Wayne Rooney noted: “He’s held himself back so he’s going to come out on his own, he’s not helping himself. He’ll be emotional of course he will, I’m sure his family are here tonight,” reports the Liverpool Echo.
“It’ll be emotional for him to come back to a club where he’s spent so many years at and had so many great memories, but that’s part of the game.”
In conversation with Amazon Prime before kick-off, Alexander-Arnold was candid about his anticipated welcome, saying: “Whichever way I’m received there is the decision of the fans you know.
“I’ll always love the club, I’ll always be a fan of the club.
“I’ll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things that we achieved together will live with me forever. My feelings won’t change towards Liverpool.
“I’ve got memories there that will last a lifetime and no matter how I’m received that won’t change.”
