5SOS followers shut down London streets as band takeover store window
Aussie hitmakers 5SOS caused traffic chaos in L.ndon when they took over a a shop window. Thousands of fans tried to get close to the band who posed as manequins ahead of their album launch show. Also Ed Sheeran successfully gets PM Keir Starmer to update the music curriculum in England for the first time in ten years.
ROCKERS 5 Seconds Of Summer shut down streets in London as they became shop window dummies.
Thousands of pop fans congregated on the capital’s Denmark Street and Tottenham Court Road to witness the Aussie foursome get wheeled into the Roland music store like props in flight cases by crew wearing Squid Game style jumpsuits.
At 5.30pm a curtain was dropped to reveal Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin stood as still as dolls in the shop window. Cue maniacal screaming from the 5SOS faithful who stopped buses and taxis to try and get a view of their posing heroes in the shop window.
After appearing in the window, the band exited the shop to a chorus of screams before driving away from the venue in a pink limo.
Later the lads unveiled upcoming new LP Everyone’s A Star! live at venue Outernet – again in a giant toy box on the stage.
After a few songs Luke explained the packaging idea: “It’s great for your social anxiety, right? Until the album goes No1, we’re not allowed out. There’s a reason that today we’re in a box and we’re making a big scene is because we moved here when I was was 15, 16, and we’ll always come back here, you guys have not shown us nothing but love and why we do things like this.”
The new album is out November 14 and the lads embark on a world tour next year including a date at The O2 London.
Meanwhile Ed Sheeran has turned from popstar to Education Secretary after successfully getting the Government to update the music curriculum in England for the first time in ten years.
The hitmaker wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer in March calling for more investment in music talent and improving the state of music education.
Now the government has announced new measures in their curriculum review, with one of those reflecting some of the asks raised in Sheeran’s letter.
Ed, who launched the Ed Sheeran Foundation at the start of 2025 to ensure music remains an integral part of every child’s education, said: “I wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister about the critical state of music education in the UK and the fact it was slipping through the cracks. The Prime Minister replied, recognising the challenges and expressing his commitment to change. This involves diversifying the music genres taught in schools and removing outdated systems that stop kids from studying music and the arts as part of their school day. These changes give young people hope and the opportunity to study music.
He added: “Without the encouragement I received in school, especially from my music teacher, I wouldn’t be a musician today, and I know so many of my peers feel the same. My music education went beyond learning and playing. It helped me find confidence in myself, and music itself was – and still is – so important for my mental health.”
The PM responded to Ed by saying: “Your open letter sent a powerful message: creativity matters.
“Today, the Government will publish its response to the curriculum review—and I wanted you to know that your voice has been heard.”
Ed, who will perform live at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball on December 7, is understandably chuffed: “Today is a good day.”
Ed for PM next.
