Man who fatally speared girlfriend utterly via chest learns destiny

A Florida man who claimed his girlfriend died in a freak accident after being impaled on a spear bedpost has been jailed for life after a jury found him guilty of murder

A man who brutally killed his girlfriend by impaling her with a spear has been sentenced to life in prison. The disgraced individual was found guilty of second-degree murder after jurors rejected his claims that his ex-partner had died in a freak accident.

Adam Crespo, from Florida, US, was sentenced to life in prison after killing his girlfriend, Silvia Galva, with a spear that was used as decoration in their bedroom.

The shocking crime unfolded on July 12, 2019, in the early hours after Crespo and his 32-year-old girlfriend returned to their Hallandale Beach home following a night out with a friend.

According to police, the couple began arguing in their bedroom, with Galva’s friend overhearing the 49-year-old killer ask Galva to leave the room, followed by Galva screaming “if [Crespo] wanted her to make a scene”.

Moments later, Crespo admitted to police that he tried to pull Galva off the bed by her ankles as she refused to leave, and claimed she “must have grabbed onto the spear”.

The decoration turned-deadly weapon was described as a five-foot bedpost with a 12-inch double-sided blade. Crespo claimed he subsequently “heard a snap and turned around to see Galva impaled on the bedpost”.

Crespo reportedly told officers that after seeing the blade had penetrated Galva’s chest, he pulled it out, “hoping it was not too bad”. He then yelled for his neighbour to call 999 while he tried to save her.

During the trial, which took place in 2023, Crespo and Galva’s respective legal sides brought in experts and even recreated the scene with a replica bed. But prosecutors argued the fatal wound could only have been caused by “intentional force”, while Crespo’s defence insisted it was a freak accident with “no physical evidence” of murder.

Assistant State Attorney for the Broward State Attorney’s Office Jaclyn Broudy reportedly said Crespo “was a person who very clearly is guilty of second-degree murder, very clearly had an ill will, a hatred, a spite against [Galva]. He was p***ed off and wanted her out.”

After less than two hours of deliberation, the jury found Crespo guilty of second-degree murder.

During the sentencing, which took place last month (October 31, 2025), Judge Andrew Siegel told Crespo he would spend the rest of his life in prison, adding he did not believe Crespo showed any remorse for what happened to Galva.

Crespo, showing no reaction, told the court: “I still love her and I regret my actions that night”.
