Moment British ‘intercourse yoga’ guru, 40, is arrested on Thai Full Moon get together island for working ‘sacred’ Tantric therapeutic massage classes

A British ‘sex yoga’ guru has been arrested on a Thai party island for allegedly running weekly tantric spirituality lessons.

Maria Shchetinina, 40, taught her clients meditations, tantric massage and ‘sacred sexuality’ from behind a local restaurant on the island of Koh Phangan, where the infamous Full Moon Party is held every month.

Footage shows the moment local cops stormed the Ethos restaurant on November 4, following investigations into the allegedly ‘sexually indecent’ yoga classes that Ms Shchetinina advertised on social media.

The self-proclaimed guru, who went by the name Maria Sky Love on social media, could be heard telling police during her arrest: ‘My lawyer said it’s ok, it’s good’, as officers detained the blonde Brit while she led a yoga class.

Cops said they checked her passport and work permit, which showed she worked as a customer relations manager for a residential property management company.

Ms Shchetinina, who charged clients 400 baht (£9) per class, was detained for carrying out work that was not listed on her documents.

Police seized from her various teaching materials, enrolment tickets, advertising flyers, her tantric yoga notes, and a sign with her picture and QR code.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Winit Boonchit of the Tourist Police Division 3 said the raid came after locals reported Maria’s ‘risque’ social media posts.

The officer said: ‘The suspect’s behaviour violates the Foreigners’ Working Management Emergency Decree because working as a tantric yoga instructor is outside the permitted scope of jobs.

‘She was charged for working as a foreigner outside the authorised scope and was handed to the inquiry officer at Koh Phangan Police Station for further legal action.’

Koh Phangan police had previously arrested Polish YouTuber Michal Grygoruk in March for holding sex yoga classes on the island.

He taught a basic course for couples for 400 baht (£9), before offering them more advanced classes for 7,440 baht (£175).

Tantric sex has origins in ancient India and its practice revolves heavily around mindful intimacy and breath.

Koh Phangan is known as a ‘hippie paradise’ for its serene beaches, spiritual retreats, and bohemian communities drawn to its natural beauty.

The island’s combination of yoga schools, vegan cafes, and psychedelic Full Moon Parties has made it a popular tourist destination since the 1980s.

However, it is suspected that a number of foreigners on the island often lack the correct visas and work permits.

Instead, they survive by illegally holding meditation workshops and offering alternative therapies.
