Rapper branded ‘an fool’ and accused of ‘taking the mick’ after blocking Peak District highway with £300,000 Rolls-Royce simply to movie a music video

A chart-topping rapper was today branded ‘an idiot’ and accused of ‘taking the mick’ for blocking an iconic narrow Peak District route with a £300,000 Rolls-Royce in order to film a music video.

Police had to be called after Tion Wayne’s entourage reportedly stopped traffic from using Winnats Pass while a cameraman and drone operator recorded his impromptu performance.

Winding beneath spectacular rock features, the narrow route is one of only two roads leading out of Castleton – a popular tourist village thronged by trippers every weekend – and locals say his antics caused ‘carnage’.

It comes just months after the area was left ‘gridlocked’ after a ‘TikTok craze’ was blamed for hundreds of motorists flocking to nearby Mam Tor to see the sunrise from the summit of the hill.

Also known as T Wizzy, London-born Wayne is best known for his 2021 hit Body, alongside Russ Millions.

The first drill song to go to No 1 in the official UK charts, it sparked concerns about its violent lyrics and references to ‘shanks’, slang for knives.

He later shared a video on Instagram showing him apparently drinking Champagne at the wheel of his car to celebrate topping the charts.

Now 32, Wayne used Derbyshire beauty spot Winnats Pass last month to film the music video to his new single, ‘Streets a Lie’.

Also featuring an orange Lamborghini and a Range Rover, it shows the drill rapper – real name Dennis Junior Odunwo – dancing and singing in front of a stationary black Rolls-Royce Cullinan with the number plate ‘No 1’.

In the clip he boasts that he ‘locked off the Peak District until the Feds came’, with drone footage showing police arriving at the scene.

So far more than 4million people have watched his videos from the trip after they were uploaded on Sunday.

He was also filmed meeting fans at nearby Speedwell Cavern Caravan car park – as traffic backs up on Winnats Pass.

However locals were less impressed, with Castleton resident Leo Randall, 39, accusing Wayne and his production team of treating Winnats Pass like a ‘playground’.

‘No one in the village is happy about it,’ he told The Times.

‘If anyone was to do that in any other form of business, there would be police coming, the council would be breathing down their neck.

‘The police aren’t five minutes away, they would have gone from something quite serious to tackle this idiot.’

Jon Pearce, Labour MP for High Peak, told the paper: ‘We’ve had our fair share of bad parking across the Peaks — but blocking Winnats Pass with a £300,000 Rolls-Royce really takes the mick.

‘I completely understand why Tion Wayne would want to film his music video here — it’s one of the most beautiful places in the UK.

‘But like everyone who visits, he needs to respect local communities and not block a vital road that residents and visitors rely on every day.’

In February police slammed Peak District visitors for ‘irresponsible’ parking as hundreds flocked to see the sunrise from Mam Tor, blocking roads and preventing gritting lorries from accessing the treacherous route.

Wayne is best known for singles like Keisha & Becky – also with Russ Millions – and Body, which won the MOBO Award for Song of the Year in 2021.

Derbyshire Police said: ‘We received a report on Sunday, October 19, just after 5.25pm about cars blocking off Winnats Pass, Castleton.

‘Officers attended and the road was cleared.’
