Dramatic second have-a-go-hero tackles spade-wielding attacker lashing out in metropolis centre

This is the dramatic moment a have-a-go-hero dramatically tackled an spade-wielding attacker to the ground, before police arrived on scene and arrested him.

Jamie Birks took the garden tool from a council worker’s trolley and went on to lash out in Derby City Centre. Two PCSOs on patrol attempted to calm him down, but the violent man only came to a stop after being knocked down by a hero passerby.

Birks was charged with five counts of assaulting emergency workers after he used violence towards officers at the scene and in custody. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 27 weeks in prison.
