Ruben Amorim provides brutally sincere response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s scathing Man Utd criticism

Cristiano Ronaldo has been scathing in his criticism of Manchester United in recent days – and Ruben Amorim has been brutally honest in his response to the club legend

Ruben Amorim has conceded that Cristiano Ronaldo was spot on when he pointed out the “lot of mistakes” Manchester United have made in recent years.

The United boss was reacting to comments from the club’s former talisman, who launched another attack on his previous employers during a chat with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo suggested Amorim faced a mammoth task in turning United’s fortunes around because of the framework surrounding him.

Whilst acknowledging past errors, Amorim predictably offered a far rosier view of where the club stands today. “Of course, he knows he has huge impact on everything he says,” he told reporters ahead of United’s clash with Tottenham on Saturday.

“But what we need to focus on is in future. We know as a club we made a lot of mistakes in the past. We are trying to change that.

“Let’s not focus on what happened. We need to focus on the future. Let’s focus on the way we are doing things. We are changing a lot of things, the structure, the way we want the players to behave, we are improving. Let’s forget a little bit the past.”

Ronaldo unceremoniously departed United in December 2022, heading to Saudi Arabia following a bitter fallout during his second stint at Old Trafford.

He’s taken several swipes at the club since his exit – and delivered another withering assessment this week.

“For me, I’m sad because of the club, that’s one of the most important clubs in the world, and a club that I still have in my heart because of the obvious reasons,” he told Morgan.

“You have to follow with the intelligent people, smart people, to create a base for the future as Manchester United have [done] so many years ago. Nicky Butt, Gary, Roy Keane, Beckham, they became big players but they had youth. So Manchester United right now, they don’t have a structure.

“I hope that changes in the future, present/future, because the potential of the club, it’s amazing. It’s one of the most important clubs of the century.”

When asked about his thoughts on Amorim, Ronaldo responded: “He’s doing his best. What are you going to do? Miracles. Miracles is impossible. We say in Portugal, ‘Miracles is only in Fatima’… And he’s not gonna do miracles. They have good players, but they don’t have, some of them, in mind what Manchester United is.”
