Women’s workforce chased wrongdoer in towels after being ‘secretly filmed within the showers’

Players on a women’s basketball team in Girona were allegedly filmed while showering together before they tried to track down the culprit in nothing but their towels

A women’s basketball squad in Girona was allegedly secretly recorded while showering before attempting to chase down the perpetrator wearing nothing but their towels. The individual behind the filming remains at large but could serve a potential jail term of up to four years, plus a fine of approximately £6,000.

The incident occurred last month in Girona when the senior women’s side of Club Esportiu Bisbal Bàsquet, competing in Spain’s fourth-tier EBA League, noticed a mobile phone protruding above the shower room wall at their training ground. They hastily wrapped themselves in towels to try and pursue the alleged perpetrator, who managed to escape and has yet to be identified.

Marca reported that the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalonia’s police force) continue to investigate the case in a bid to locate the suspected voyeur.

Sanctions could be significantly harsher if the video material is circulated or shared in any manner. This includes uploading the footage online or flogging it for monetary benefit.

Sara Garcia Carrascosa, a solicitor from Legalitas, confirmed any sentence could be increased in such circumstances and told La Sexta: “If the video is sold or posted on a page through which an economic return can be obtained, the penalty is even greater.”

A club statement read: “We condemn with total force the acts of intrusion into the privacy of our senior players and express our absolute support for the affected players. We have asked the City Council to take urgent measures to guarantee the safety and dignity of all people in sports facilities.”

Following the privacy breach, Bisbal Basquet demanded an emergency summit with public officials to tackle the issue. It’s understood the meeting went ahead, with mayor Oscar Aparicio, Councillor for Sports Cesc Vidal and Councillor for Equality Dolors Molina each present.

The club has also pressed the council to boost security arrangements at the Bisbal d’Emporda municipal sports pavilion, where the incident occurred. This involves installing CCTV cameras in the reception to deter future wrongdoers from committing similar offences.

Additionally, Bisbal Basquet has requested that opaque panels be fitted in the changing room to further shield players. That’s alongside a call for the wall partitions in the shower zone to be heightened.

This latest incident emerged just months after a comparable episode in Spain involving covert recording in changing facilities. La Sexta reported that in February 2025, a female football monitor was “arrested for recording girls in the bathrooms after training.”
