Bodybuilder shoots binman lifeless after getting caught being dustcart on option to gymnasium

Renê da Silva Nogueira Júnior flew into a rage after he was held up as the refuse collectors were on their rounds and opened fire at a binman before threatening the driver

A bodybuilder allegedly shot a binman dead after getting stuck being a dustcart on his way to the gym – and then coolly did a workout.

Renê da Silva Nogueira Júnior, 47, is said to have flown into a rage when a refuse lorry blocked his route – before opening fire on one of the other workers in cold blood.

After shooting refuse worker Laudemir de Souza Fernandes, 44, he then threatening the dustcart driver before fleeing the scene, it is said.

The police then found the businessman working out at his luxury gym, where he was calmly working out when officers came in and arrested him. The alleged shooting took place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on 11 August this year.

The case, which sparked national outrage, took a fresh turn this week after a court lifted a confidentiality order that had previously kept key details secret.

The court lifted the confidentiality order put into place at the time to prevent the leaking of information. The first hearing for the case has been scheduled for 25 and 26 November.

After the alleged murder, ballistics experts confirmed that the suspected murder weapon belonged to the defendant’s wife, police officer Ana Paula Lamego Balbino.

Renê reportedly confessed to the crime under police questioning in August. But defence lawyers argued that his confession should be rejected because he did not have legal representation at the police station at the time.

Judge Ana Carolina Rauen rejected the defence’s request and ruled that there was “no longer reason to maintain confidentiality,” saying the case should now proceed with full transparency.

In her ruling, she wrote: “The defence did not present concrete evidence demonstrating coercion, duress, or any other element that would have nullified or weakened the extrajudicial confession.”

She also pointed out that Renê had been represented by two lawyers later on in the process and had been properly informed of his right to remain silent.

Renê remains in custody at Caeté Prison on charges of aggravated homicide. Now that the confidentiality order has been lifted, the authorities hope the case will proceed with more transparency, allowing for greater public scrutiny of the next stages of the trial.
